Hello forum! I'm finally posting my art here!

I'm more active on twitter (@kesa_040) and tumblr (kesia-stupid-arts), if you like my art, feel free to follow!

This thread here makes me incredibly happy! ALL of this!

(though especially all the variations of shipping art because despite being in this fandom for around 10 years I have barely seen other people having DS ships. Makes me kind of feel less like an outcast for actually shipping characters.)

I can barely decide which one of those drawings I like most, but Willow comparing Wigfried's hair with flames is my favourite scene. 

And my second favourite here is the Webber and Wendy return back home and Webber comes to visit her.

And of course the Wes-confuses-Maxwell-with-Jack one xD

Also sweet how you make Wes occasionally use sign language it seems? If I interpreted this right.

A nice idea, so if I understood right, you also think that Wes would /theoretically/ be able to speak but he turns mute based on e.g. stress situations?

( I think he could theoretically speak as there is /in-theory/ dialogue for his soliquoly on the Charlie stage and it is in french. First I thought Wes maybe didn't understand / speak a different language than french and therefore didn't speak but then he seems to understand the others perfectly well or else doesn't just "only" talk specifically in french with Warly, so I also moved on to the headcanon that Wes doesn't speak for e.g. emotional reasons / stress response and in other situations because he wants to stay inside his mime role [could be coping additionally to an artistic expression] )

I like the detail that you make him speak American sign language occasionally in consideration to his fellow survivors mostly being from the american continent while I would have expected him to use the LSF.

Yeah! People who are selective mute are usually neurodivergent (ex. Autistic people) or people who had gone through trauma, they can't speak even though they don't have any physical impediment. But they might speak in very specific situations or with people they are very close with!

Honestly, I don't think Wes is mute (physical or psychological), I think it's the same case as Wigfrid, he is just very dedicated to his mime role, that's why he doesn't talk. But I add the stuff about him being selective mute in my stories (comics or fanfics) to make it a bit more "realistic" and dramatic. I also add him speaking in ASL sometimes to make it easier for the readers to understand!

 

Also, another thing! If he only speaks in french, Maxwell might be one of the people who understands him. There's a few quotes that he says popular french sayings (his quote for Bubble Pipe Carving and the burnt mush lamp), and his quote for Le Chat Noir poster in Hamlet, that implies he had been to France before. If he had been in France, it makes sense that he might speak at least a bit of basic French! So if Wes can't speak English, he might be able to communicate with Warly, Maxwell and Wickerbottom maybe. (I add Wickerbottom here, since she's very smart, she might be able to speak other languages).

About the french speaking making him mainly communicate with other characters capable of that language, this is exactly what I meant to describe when I thought that in the rare cases Wes does speak verbally that he would likely do so in french or when speaking non-verbally either in mime-language or SLF. I also had Maxwell, Wickerbottom (it would feel weird to me if she didn't know french), and Warly in mind. I just mentioned Warly in particular since he's the most obvious one who could be a conversation partner for Wes in that case.

Sorry on the other thing that I thought you meant that headcanon of yours for Wes being more then just an intense mime being in general and not just to make your fanart easier to understand for the reader. It's giving the game-logic some practical use for your comics which is a good way to include the "mime-speech" and give it a "real life" reason.

I am different in there that I see everything mostly from my headcanons pov even when they are completely different from the fandoms canon. My mind basically works in AU form so much I ignore the canon a lot in all of my fandoms. (though I never would want the canon to change, I just value my imagination more and only extremly seldomly adapt it even when its no or flawd logic. In general I am in every fandom this stubborn weirdo with the mostly illogical / au non-conformist headcanons or with headcanons that are either based on my specific kind of humour or some realism that I can't stop clinging to.) So it's often difficult for me to distinguish other people's headcanons / au-stuff they use for their art and their relationship to the fandom's creators canon.

I understand that! I know most people have a "solid" image of the characters and universe, and solid headcannons in their mind, I'm a bit more flexible. It depends on the story, sometimes I will portray Wes as selective mute, sometimes as just a silly mime who doesn't want to speak, sometimes I portray his relationship with Maxwell as cute and nice, sometimes as complicated... It really depends on the story! I like to play with different scenarios in my writing and art, and I do what's more convenient.

^^ When I referred to my headcanons as "stubborn" then I meant stubborn in the sense of "My + other people's headcanons I favour over canon, and can't stand to have people make fans adapt their ideas to the canon at all costs." while my own headcanons and AUs sometimes (actually often) tend to have different variation-options avaible too, especially when I see ideas from someone else or something I particular like in canon I often include it or a reference / something based on it in an AU of my AU / headcanon.

(for example I loved the addition of the "small ghosts" in DST so much that I made an AU of my headcanon that included a [particially dark realism] specific reason for them being there while also including them in a different variation of a headcanon with a less dark tone to it.)

This is a lucky mime there. (lol sorry my thoughts). Also that's hillarious to see DST Maxwell in your style in comparison to NPC Maxwell. Without the size difference it would have been almost impossible to me to tell who is who. (this finally points out how confused I was the DST Maxwell wears different clothes xD)

also it is an interesting thought that maxwell would actually go through with his half of the bargin. a really depressing one since she is a very old woman whose needs are probably extensive enough that she still needed her son and now has to live with the threading of doubt that he ran away because he didnt want to be around her anymore

I made this comic to give Warly a "better" ending, because I see a lot of people in the community theorizing that she's probably dead irl, because she has dementia, and without Warly, she would have no one to take care of her at that state.

In this scenario, she gets cured, so she will survive because she will be good enough to care for herself, but she will no longer have her son, which is a sad ending still... But it's better than the common theory.

Also, Warly could be a bit more relieved in the Constant, knowing that his mother is doing okay at home. He is polite to Maxwell in their interactions, if he really did give a death sentence to his mom, Warly wouldn't be so kind.

The most chilling art I've seen of fuel-"infected" monster Maxwell. I kind of had to struggle whether to react with "health" or "wavy". I first chose health from being overwhelmed with how much I love it but I will now change to wavy because I am overwhelmed with love AND shadowy-adoration-chill
