Cave grass and twigs, and how they could be more unique

The fact that such a big portion of the caves is just stuff you can find on the surface seems a little dull to me...

I think cave grass and twigs could function differently than surface ones, with a 'wilder' look.

Main idea is that grass and twigs in the caves would be carnivorous, requiring non-rotten meat after a certain number of harvests (more harvests before fertilizing though, and only require meat if they've been dug up.)

The upside is that they produce grass and twigs twice as fast, the downside being they dont grow on the surface during day or dusk (making cave bases have more to them i guess.)

Surface grass and twigs wouldnt not grow in the caves due to lack of sunlight.

The caves update will probably only focus on shadows, but i hope that some other existing content could be changed too

i thought the abundance of twiggy trees and juicy berries was pretty nice especially since they(at least for me) show up a lot more readily in caves. it does make it look a bit more "feral" in my eyes though i totally get why it isnt a great solution since you are correct that they show up above-ground too

Maybe add some grassy crabs as grass growing counterparts to rock lobsters and a caves specific variation on grass geckos, or a "rolling stone" that grows lichen and bounces around like a tumble weed but more persistent in the world and not randomly spawning.

I personally really don’t like “forced” growing conditions in cases like these. I don’t mind if they don’t work as efficiently or as good if you take them out of their respective shard, but outright locking you out of using them if you put them in the “wrong” shard would feel pretty bad IMO.
 

Otherwise, I think the concepts are quite neat! Would certainly be an interesting spin to farming grass/twigs that has its own ups and downs.

It could be like farm plants but inverted: on the surface, they only grow during night time and then pause their growth throughout the day, like how farm plants only grow during day and dusk but pause their growth through the night.
