Adding Woodlegs to a regular DST

Recommended Posts

Hello. I would like, and many other guys also want, for Woodlegs to become a full-fledged character in a regular DST. A character who has chips in the ocean is sorely lacking in the vanilla game. Developers, is this even possible, and if so, how do you see it and when approximately can you add it to the game? Thank you in advance.

For Woodlegs obviously his perks would have to translate to dst rather then be one to one of his original abilities.

Im thinking... His hat helps him sniff out treasure/bottles (could have some unique loot tables since woodless is generating them), while making pirate monkeys fear him (could translate to reduced dmg from the monkeys and a possible, abandonment of the their ship if the he kills the captain).

He could come equipped with a recipe for a better ship (the sea legs mark II) His own model of cannon and perhaps an onboard form of the spyglass. After that though, not sure what else to add other than some special nightmares to come for him on land specifically (and by sea for the charm and special interaction with shadows, been a while and would be nice to see some new shadows).

Perhaps some basic sailing skills too, effective built in bandanna making him the ultimate sailor, turning faster or better boat control in general.

The sea is very fun to explore, treasure is a exciting thing to pursue with the better loot tables, the shark makes travel very nice with the help of pearls giant fish lure, and once we have eyes on monkey island, the raids are not too bad and can be influenced. Don't get me wrong more needs to be done but its nice to talk about this sort of thing, since the devs did say that they could touch up on the ocean a bit more later, the one we got was more of a skill tree update with ocean stuff sprinkled in.

Also side note, I have no idea what could be done for Walani to make them a fun character in dst, their whole identity is-

  1. drys off faster
  2. inverse of willows sanity modifier (willow = 10% positive and negative sanity modifier. Walani = -10% positive and negative sanity modifier, she is water willow)
  3. has a surfboard that is meant to be a cheap access item for sailing specifically in shipwrecked, where there are waves, dst has none obviously aside for ones caused by narwhales and crab king.

I am not certain as to how you expand on a character like this, they are visually appealing and have a all around good vibe about them, but that seems like its kinda it. She brings the style points but not much else gameplay wise.

Or perhaps I am biased as a result of liking the pirate concept since there is a lot more to go off of conceptually than that of, laid back surfer girl.

if we were in a different place in the game AND pirate monkeys were not a thing i would tentativly agree but his kit is kind of not a match anymore. he would just be an ugly walter to the people who arent already keen on him. thematically he has a tight and sound suite of  moves/kit for his character but for the game he doesnt have the "right" vibes to feel like the moves/kit make sense an there are already counter options for his bonuses

in truth it would be better if they left woodlegs in shipwrecked and just brought over elements of his clothing; pegleg skins, scrubby beards and more functional pirate hats!

All characters, I just wish ALL characters were present (even if that means DST being around for another 20 years and all characters being adapted (to me the original cast also feels WAY different compared to their DS version,...not counting beloved Wilson who's still Wilson), I would never mind there never being a "sequel".)

I actually have many ideas about Walani.
Firstly, she used a surfboard to navigate on the sea. Although it sounds a bit outrageous, I want to know how she made the surfboard move. After all, other people use rafts to row with oars, but her surfboard can row naturally without external force. Does this mean that this surfboard has magic?
Then, does it mean that she has some connection with water as she works faster than others. Does being with a surfboard mean she has some magical ability?
Finally, unicorn whales have other means of attack. However, the attacks of the remade Crab King hardly targeted the ships.
Of course, these are just my whimsical ideas. I really hope to see other DS characters in DST and absorb some of DS's advantages.

sorry.sketch-1721665060949.png.d418160f3a61b35c57d0531d80864d0f.png1721662609222.jpg.0b373226239548acefeddc307c8bf963.jpg

woodlegs would be a disaster to try to fit into the lore, and a ton of work considering that he'd need a fully fledged rework + a skill tree + skins
and i dont think the ocean is nearly integral enough to have a character centered around sailing
