Karia
I hope the game becomes challenging enough, and the latest DLC seems to make many things easier. Carib94
The longer you play a game the easier it is to play it. With Oni specifically you the player can make the game hard by increasing difficulty or putting in your own challenges of "dont use xxx or dont do this/that". Just note if things were to be challenging just dont complain about it later lol. Magheat2009
Play on harder maps. New DLC comes with a blasted map type for those looking for a challenge. The new DLC is fairly challenging. Particularly in the early game. On 7/20/2024 at 1:50 PM, Carib94 said: The longer you play a game the easier it is to play it. This, exactly. The more you play, the more you understand the mechanics and what works/doesn't work. For example, when I first started playing, my base would be plagued by food poisoning for a very long time even after I set up proper sanitation. Now, with some worlds, I can have a plumbed bathroom up and running by the 4th cycle, and I'm a lot better at managing the polluted dirt and water so that they don't spread the food poisoning. The end result is that now even when I start a new world with maximum disease, my dupes don't get sick. The same goes for other game mechanics such as oxygen availability, food, water, power.. Some of my early bases failed in crazy ways because of a chain-reaction of failures. One day my dupes started starving, even though I had set up enough farms to keep them fed. Turned out the farms got too hot, so I built a system to cool them, which ended up burning through my available fuel supply and starved my electrolyzers. Suddenly my dupes were huffing and puffing and stuff wasn't growing and ... now my designs are more robust and account for potential failures so that problems stay small. Pick a low-survival map, increase your hunger rate, increase your oxygen rate, disable mods... O.J.Vodka
I'm the same. 'The frost planet pack' lacks challenges. Although I bought it, I don't want to play it. KittenIsAGeek
That's unfortunate. I've been enjoying the expansion. The challenge, or not, was never an issue for me. Mostly I play to let my curiosity and creativity free. I like to watch systems interact, and sometimes I'll build a base around a theme. Other times I'll start from scratch and see how long it takes me to build a particular machine. I haven't used the sandbox mode since before Spaced Out, because its more fun to me to figure out how to do things using the dupes. Sometimes I enjoy finding ways to exploit the rules of the game. Other times I go out of my way to avoid any exploitation. I've used super dupes, normal dupes, and "the worst dupes I can possibly get with the randomizer." Its all interesting in different ways and for different reasons. I chose difficult constraints most of the time because it changes the path needed to achieve whatever it is I'm after at the time I'm playing, not because it is difficult. That's just me though. I like looking at a problem and seeing how many different ways I can solve it. Or looking at a thing and seeing how many ways I can use it. I'm well over 7000 hours in ONI and I'm not bored yet. To be fair, I just failed locavore/carnivore on Ceres minor. Maybe I'm a bit rusty, ok. Maybe was the seed or the misaligned pod, but Ceres minor feels way harder than classic or blasted Ceres. I wasn't quite expecting some... less than pleasant eventualities.
