A message to all my fellow megabasers

Recommended Posts

Yooo, so I like an epic base as much as anyone and have been apart of a few more than acceptable looking masses of awesomeness.

But I’m going to be serious for a moment, I know a majority of these players are friendly and welcoming to newcomers however I have witnessed some pretty disgusting behavior towards beginners by a few of these “base builders”. They view these players as nothing more than a burden see them as griefers and kick them out for just trying to survive among other minor things. As a scout who is willing to help everyone this is absolutely unacceptable behavior.

Thanks for listening to my rant and if you do one of these things just please know that you are not a “pro” in my books.

Some people are smart enough to realize that people can grief their work of art, but not smart enough to realize they can set the server to "Friends" only

So you think you should kick out newcomers because you are smart enough to realize they can grief you? That’s not cool bruv.

It is their server. It is their choice who they play with. It is completely acceptable.

Your suffering is due to the inacceptance that you can't make other people accept you.

That is out of your control, and that's okay.

My g, if you believe that you “own” Klei servers than I think you are contributing to a part of the problem.

(Just to be clear I’m not talking about host servers)

My dude, nowhere in your post you mentioned "Klei Official Servers"

In those servers, people always let new people join, unless they are known griefers from the griefer client mod.

If you burned the base once, all the people on the server will flag your steam ID as a griefer on officials, and auto start kick vote.

Best to find the few people that would enjoy playing the game with you and playing in private than trying public ones, cause public ones are often mixed bags.

Nobody owns klei servers but they are for those that rule the server at the moment before it all resets back to the start. They are for public enjoyment but the game's mechanics and moderation tools are as chaotic as they'll get. Also yea should have said it was Klei hosted servers before that, cause those are as chaotic as they get.

I don’t know if you are BS-ing or you actually believe that you can always enter a server. The other day me and my friend entered one, blud get kicked instantly when I asked why they called him a griefer (he had 3.1 hours) and also proceeded to kick me too. Flagging our steam IDs because you are intolerant towards newcomers is kind of petty.

Flagging happens automatically if a player burns player structures and such

Has your friend ever done that on a pub?

I have a brother 17 younger than me which was a little prick the first time he started playing DST and burned bases thinking it was funny

Then afterwards he noticed he was always getting insta kicked and then I sat down with him to explain that his actions do have consequences and some fun is not nice fun

It's a good family learning experience

Just starting a game I doubt it. But I’m not here to talk actual griefers such as people who ruin the game based on their immature sense of humor as my original post points to. Rather beginners who want to enjoy the game yet are unable to because of disgusting behavior on public servers. As an example I’ve witnessed a Wolfgang intentionally claim Wilson was burning base and everything to kick him (which he wasn’t) simply because he opened a chest without his permission but of course he couldn’t say that cuz nobody would kick him. I hope you don’t support this kind of activity because it would be really disheartening.

And on that subject what do you mean automatic flagging first time I heard of such a thing in 8 years.

If I have to watch over my base or babysit a newbie because they are new then this type of world isn't for them, having everything at their disposal and still being clueless causes so much annoyance and sometimes destruction. I will only kick if they are actively harmful but it gets tiresome when they die to darkness or starvation when there is a kitchen full of food. (And I mean common deaths, I don't get angry when someone dies to nightmares every once in awhile)

So in response to the original post, being a burden is nonsensical when you can simply play a new world and learn 10x more than a mega base were you have no idea wtf is going on.

How else are you going to increase the difficulty of the game?

It is quite fun simulating being a parent of Wilsons

Client mods that are used to start instant kicks on klei official servers is the height of griefing.

You can never trust these people who create these ban lists.

Klei should disable voting and client mods when playing klei official servers. They should be aiming at the most vanilla/raw DST experience possible.

You don't need client mods for that.

People used to remember names and vote kick since the end of time.

The client mod just tackles the name changing problem due to steamid tracking.

It has been quite effective, very few bases were burned or grief looted in the past months.

So basically if I ACCIDENTLY(!) burn a structure [and believe me I often accidently do something I didn't intended to] I will automatically get banned from every public server for lifetime? In that case I probably should never even plan to join any community servers :/

I've seen people get banned for eating a mandrake honestly that mod shouldn't exist

That's cruelty. How on earth shall playing be fun when you're walking on eggshells constantly? Well.....I can still ask random people here if I'd be allowed to play together with them, in future. If I still have the courage to do so after hearing about this.

You know what, I totally believe you. Base can’t be burnt if you just kicked everyone off the server LMAO.

The fact that you still continue this discussion even after knowing my original message leads me to believe you legit participated in some of these actions.

No, I always let people join in my pubs, I sometimes even show them where base is.

It makes the wipe interesting. Wild Wilsons are fascinating creatures to behold.

All the vote kicks I initiated were all deserved, usually post rollback.

[OR I will open my own public server and make them a griever's playground so they leave everyone else alone and can have fun causing an apocalypse..I suppose I wouldn't even mind a lot since chaos happening adds to making the game less predictable.]

It feels like you have stronger feelings about it than most of the people doing it. I kick people a lot, i'm open to people joining and allow almost anyone, but I just don't have time or the obligation to let someone lag me behind.

You're not entitled to someone's time/stuff/energy. It's a far comparison, but if I invite you into my home and you eat all of my food and wonder around my living room constantly going 'Uedo, come here please.'   'Uedo, can you find me x/y/z?!'   'Uedo, can you teach me how to....' im totally gonna feel a type of way and will probably wish you just never came.

Vetting in a server is normal, imma vet you and if I don't want you there, I won't have you there. There's literally no feeling involved, it's just like.... I kinda want to enjoy myself when i'm playing a game and not play 1/3 of it for you.
