Ever since I came back to the game, ive been struggling to find a proper main. give me reccomendations and ill give them a try

I will always recommend Wilson just for the sake of recommending the character with the best "voice", the best character design and the funnies quotes :) [at least the ones I understand despite weird puns obsession].

I will ALSO always recommend Maxwell for the sake of recommending the "dark magic" character who used to be a villain simply because I love [former] villains. Also because he's got some quotes that still refer to him being the former antagonist.

[in other words I am no help since I am extremly biased with my two obsession-characters]

Woodie(biased).

ngl, i actually love woodie. his moose form is really nice and im able to consistently beat bosses like cc with it. i also really like woodies goose, as it helps with exploration, especially with finding ruins and finding lunar. my issue comes with his lategame. i feel like hes just a little barebones in that aspect and has nothing unique to offer when it comes to rift content and such

Fully invest in Werebeaver, you’ll still have just enough points to get the perks to make moose good at fighting.. but with full Werebeaver you can use the “TailSlam” attack to quickly mine pure brilliance.

I recommend that you only play as characters who have skill trees, because if the last Eight don’t give you any indication: Skill Trees massively change the way the entire character plays.

Especially when it comes to Willow & Winona.

I could never ever EVER go back to playing as Willow or Winona without Willows Fire Mage Powers & Winona’s Portablity in her structures.

Webber is a character I recommend he has access to monster meat for food, silk, healing glands that can be made into salves to heal you more

Wendy is another as well since she has abigail she can help you fight and as a blender she can kill spiders for the same reasons as if your webber she can help if you get attack by hounds too

Keep experimenting with characters to help find one that suits your playstyle, enjoying there perks, and enjoy playing as them and have fun :wilson_love:

honestly? i would need to know what you like most about dst before i could give a suggestion: basbuilders would get a different answer from a bossraider and i would choose entirely different stuff for a newbie over a veteran

Wilson ngl.

Wilson and Wanda for me, but still fully agree.

Wanda almost made it into my obsession-characters team because of her voice and her old-age design [so adorable!] but then I didn't want to spend money on her, considering I might find out that I may not like to use her gameplay style. [+ Wickerbottom and Wolfgang who two, I both would have liked to add to my player based on how much I adore their voices [that's literally the most important aspect for me], but then the obsession wasn't ENOUGH and I happen to consider their gameplay not interesting enough for me in DST]

Gotcha. Honestly, I've never played as Wanda (on account of not owning the game on my PC, but that's a minor inconvenience), but the idea and the gameplay have always appealed to me.

I especially adore her death animation. [I tried to adapt it to my Maxwell character, as I wanted him to be grabbed by shadow-arms as well at death [the shadows taking him back], but I forgot how to combine different spriter files to make a Wanda-death-animation without the clocks but with a character that isn't Wanda. If I just adjust the symbols the character's "heart attack" animation is played invisible so the hands appear to take nothing with them. .....maybe I will try to add this again another time when I am done with the rest. Kind of jealous of Wanda's special death.]

if you want someone with a great endgame, new Winona is great for that. Her Wagstaff side of the tree really opens up after you kill CC(preferably a few times) and get some p.brilliance. She has a bunch of cool things she can do for long term worlds too, like those teleportation networks. Overall, out of all the characters currently present, I liked her endgame the most.

Really depends on what you are looking for. What do you tend to play in other games? (I am mostly referring to solo)

For instance I love healing in many games, even if I am playing solo. So you would think Wortox, but I love Wormwood because he has the most different form of healing requirements from other characters, so it triggers my brain in to feeling like I am playing my beloved Healer.

If you love Summoners, Maxwell for actually summoning entities from nothing, Webber if you like mass hoards. Wurt if you prefer fewer but very powerful followers.

If you love Mages, Willow and Winona fit that bill the most. (Well and Maxwell kind of, his damage is from summons not range "spells")

Ranged archer/gunner, well you only have Walter.

Melee focus you have Wolfgang (Barbarian), Wigfrid (Fighter), Wanda (Glass Cannon)

Then the rest of the cast. I like Warly for his versatility via foods and unique downside. Wendy is nice as it is kind of like playing 2 characters simultaneously. Wilson is bog standard but that doesn't mean he is boring. Wortox has hunger or sanity issues but is quite powerful with on demand healing and teleportation.

Or you just pick anyone and play the Beefalo character. (I hate beefalo)

Dont need one

Also true. Personally, I just pick whatever character I feel like playing atm(though I do have some preferences). It'd be a shame not to play more than a few characters, considering how good most of them are by now.

Very very true. While I primarily play Wormwood I do dabble with other characters from time to time. (New worlds every time.)
