I really like the Fuelweaver fight

Recommended Posts

(there is a TL:DR at the bottom if you cannot be bothered)

Theres a few reasons as for why i like the Fuelweaver fighting ranging from actually important to just small things that give the fight more of an identity

Firstly for a more minor thing I like, Fuelweaver actually has a proper arena as most bosses either have their spawner in some otherwise normal looking part of the map or just drop on your head (which *is* fine I just also like the set arena as it makes the fight more special in my eyes as it increases the "this fight is important" feel)

Second-of-all Fuelweaver properly punishes the player for messing up with the woven shadows. As unless its something like Celestial Champion blender or enraged dragonfly's stomp getting hit usually isnt a huge deal since healing is abundant and armor is very effective. So Fuelweaver having a method to punish the player outside of "just eat jellybeans" forces either getting better or swapping to a more effective/easier strat which for what was once the final boss and still an important milestone in any dst run is really important.

But, for what i think is the most important aspect of Fuelweaver it's the flexibility and amount of strategies available to fighting him as there is a lot of strategy/tech available when it comes to dealing with him which for a survival/sandbox game is really important to have.
As your probably aware Fuelweaver has a large amount of things glued to him like summoning wovens/shadow hands, stunlocking insane players and the bone cage. Which while on the surface this seems like complete baloney his none damaging attacks usually have a few solutions or some way to either use it to your benefit or nullify it

(this isn't meant to be a guide on how to deal with these things im just bringing up the attacks to help my point that there's a lot of variety on how to deal with fuelweaver's shenanigans)

Woven Shadows look like they just need some form of aoe to deal with like the weather pain or some character based solution like lunar, the wigfrid spear charge or the bramble husk but you can also walk fuelweaver around the arena and wait for them to die of natural causes or beat them to death yourself.

Unfortunately, Shadow Hands to my knowledge dont really have any cool tech or items you can use its just use whatever form of rapid insanity/sanity restoration you prefer though while playing Ring-a-round-a-Rosie with fuelweaver you can easily line up the wovens dying with the shadow hands which is nice, again, unless im missing something these are pretty straight forward in how to deal with them and their purpose

The Insanity stunlock on paper just looks like something to punish people who are solely focusing on the shadow hands but it can actually be used to get more damage in on fuelweaver before he starts summoning his pierogi again since you can force him to start the stunlock animation and while he's doing it hit him (or close distance to be in a more ideal position)

Bone Cage: as you definitely know fuelweaver after around every 2 attacks or animations (ie summoning something) he'll slam the ground and summon a bone cage which doesn't have that much counterplay on first look besides the lazy explorer, wortox or the backstep watch however. If you stand at the edge of the bone cage's range wait for him to start the animation then get out of it's range you wont get caged
admittedly this sounds like a bug I even thought it was one at first but from everything ive looked at it's just intended mechanics working as intended so I can't realistically call it one hence why im bringing it up

(this is the tl:dr i brought up at the start)
Overall I believe fuelweaver to be the best boss as he is built up as an important fight with his own area solely dedicated to him, punishes the player accordingly for messing up as a final boss should and has a variety of solutions for his attacks be it luring him around the arena using the weather pain or bone cage dodging he is a none linear boss with solutions for people either just trying to figure out how to beat him or strats worthy enough to be used by the round table of god gamers

Brightshade staff helps a lot and can feel pretty satisfying for the hands, I was surprised to see it actually target them
