Ocean concept: New biome - The hollow grove!

=- NEW BIOME: The hollow grove -=

Want to see what happens when a waterlogged biome is corrupted by shadow fuel? GOOD!

This biome is full of tricks and hallucinations, so be observant!

- Locating -

The hollow grove is 3x as big as a waterlogged biome, so it should be easy to notice.

The biome has magenta flavored waters, so you know when you're in funky town.

You can alternatively locate the biome by reading a message in a bottle.

- Hazards -

There are quite a few hazards in the biome, so watch your step!

= Noxious gas =

This purple gas surrounds the entire biome!

Effects:

- A portion of your borders are blurred, making it hard to see incoming threats (Inventory, stats, ect are uncovered.)

- Your max sanity is cut in half when in the biome, making it harder for some characters to function.

- You may see hallucinations of mobs roaming about. To differentiate a delusion from a foe, you must listen to them (If the mob makes sounds, it's real, if not, FAKE!)

 

= Siren =

Siren visual (Might change it in the future)

This mob is quite the trickster!

Stats:

HP: Depends ... 

ATK: Depends ...

SPD: Depends ...

Behavior

- These pests will invade your boat every 4 minutes you are in the biome!

- When they appear, pvp will be enabled for everyone in range of a siren.

- The siren will temporarily blind the players and then disguise themself as one of the survivors.

- The siren copies worn stats, armor, weapons and will attempt to attack the survivor it's copying. It will also copy things said in chat.

- To kill the siren, you must have good communication and find out who is who, otherwise you might kill one of your own.

- Spawned sirens depends on how many players are on the boat.

Drops

[Hollow head] x 1

[Nightmare fuel] x 1-2

[Monster meat] x 1

 

- Plants -

Everyone loves botany, especially the shadow kind!

= Hollow tree =

Behavior

- These trees are scattered around the biome.

- They grow special caffeinated fruit called "Guarana eyes", which grow in place of the empty holes it has.

- Fruit regrows every 5 days with a harvest of 3.

Renewing

- You must kill a siren and claim it's hollow head.

- To plant the tree, simply place the head in the water wherever.

 

= Hollow flower =

Behavior

- These plants are completely harmless, giving 3 grass, 3 twigs and 1 evil flower petal when harvested.

- They cannot be replanted in your base, but they randomly reappear in the biome after a few days.

- You could go to the hollow grove for grass and twigs in a pinch, as the flowers are plentiful.

 

= Hollow thorns =

Behavior

- These prickly roots are randomly spread around the biome.

- These plants will cling to your boat if you happen to bump into them, dealing 25 damage and preventing all movement.

- The thorns have 125 health, so you must destroy them before moving on.

- The thorns reappear after 2 days.

 

= Guarana eyes =

- Raw -

HP: +3

Sanity: -10

Hunger: +5

Speed: +90% for 5 seconds.

- Cooked -

HP: +5

Sanity: -5

Hunger: +12,5

Speed: +90% for 15 seconds.

= Crockpot recipes =

- Energy bar -

"It's like eating gravel..." - Wilson

[Pinecone] x 1

[Berries] x 1

[Guarana eyes] x 2

Stats:

HP: +15

Sanity: -15

Hunger: +25

Speed: +90% for 4 minutes, 30 seconds.

- Caffeine patch -

"Now i can skip the eating." - Wilson

[Guarana eyes] x 2

[Honey] x 2

Stats:

HP: +1

Sanity: -15

Hunger: +35

Effect: Increases sleep resistance from 10 to 20 for 1 day (Less effective than the Mushy cake, but the effects can be combined.)

- Eyedog -

"Oof, that's a severe case of Mycopia." - Wilson

[Meat] x 1

[Monster meat] x 1

[Guarana eyes] x 2

Stats:

HP: +20

Sanity: -20

Hunger: +30

Effect: Makes you or a fed follower work 50% more efficiently.

 

- My thoughts -

I had cool ideas for mobs, dangers and plants, but i needed a fine reward to make it worth going to the biome. So i decided on an equivelant to SW coffee!

I don't think adding even more empty space klei would have to fill is a good idea

should behave more like Hamlet's pond biomes. there's water for that biome but not EVERYWHERE.

This looks so cool.

 

But like others said it would have to be in the cave. Shadows do not appear on the surface outside of sainity changes. It could even be a pond just with this biome in it.

Also siren needs to do something singleplayer, otherwise everyone will just go to the biome alone.

Sirens will copy your armor and weapons (they can equip stuff you wear mid fight, you just have to outkite them.) sirens will spawn in pairs when alone, per player is 1 siren. (so 2 players = 2 sirens, 1 player = 2 sirens.)

My idea behind the hollow grove was that since the ocean has always been a terrifying place in history (a desolate watery landscape), some horror could work for the area.

Sure IG.

Perhaps like with acid rain not appearing in the Lunar grotto and archives, Lunar Hail and Rift seekers and other lunar nonsense (like hounds turning into horror hounds) couldn't happen here.

A few ideas to expand on your thought:

- Lunacy is impossible to achieve in the hollow grove, as the sorrows overpower the joys.

- Hollow sirens will be distracted by ANY lunar mob and try to attack them (in example: Saladmanders, Shattered spiders, Carrats, Lunar birds ect.). This would make it a convenient solution to easily defeat the sirens, as they will be occupied with other battles.

- If there are hollow trees near a rift (Which could be achieved by planting them near the coast), then Brightshade gestalts will possess them and cause death. (Chopping down animation). This is purely to make it harder to grow the OP coffee trees lategame.

- The hollow grove protects you against Lunar hail, Hollow sirens will not appear during this period (If they are supposed to appear then they will do so after the hail ends.)
