Another economy post: Broken shells.

Recommended Posts

Having a true currency with multiple ways to earn said currency in order to buy elusive resources that pop up here and there would be the solutions to the problems which have been created as of late.

Traders that deal with real money. Not bottles, not fish, none of that nonsense. Good old fashioned coin and bank notes.

Sell meat, get coin. Sell veg, get coin. Sell fruit, get coin. Sell character specific crafts, get coin.
Wigfrid can be an arms dealer, Willow can open up a tobacco store and sell lighters, Wanda can be the clock specialist, the list goes on.

All to solve the nagging issue of the absolute unnecessary scarcity of broken shells.

Would add an excuse to funnel in topiarys and hedges from hamlet.

Just add economy.

Disagree. It might solve the problem but would ruin the atmosphere

Dst is getting too much npcs

If we're counting dlc solo has way more.

Only because of hamelt which is based on having shops. They are basically dressed pigs and are coherent with the environment

In dst we have: pk, pearl, crows from charlie's theater, moonquay queen, cawnival crows, skin trader appearing in the beefalo contest, wagstaff... we can also add daywalker, frostjaw and ck

We have too much npcs and bosses but very few new areas, flora and fauna. We need more of these before getting more npc because are starting to look out of place considering they are patches filling RoG map...

Sadly in a type of game like this where you can easily mass produce stuff this would be exploitable really fast:

Learn that you earn the best income by potatos, or straw hats, or whatever (there will always be something that is easier to mass produce and gives the best income compared to the time invested, no matter how many times you try to balance it out) then everyone just rushes 6 million potatoes to break the economy system in 5 days.
And then they will start doing bosses or basing as they always do. It just will not add anything fun.

I think the current NPCs could use a lot of improvements, specially the monkey queen lack of late game interactions, but I dont think the game is ready for a major economy system.

Ck isn't a npc, pk is in solo too, corvus and trader are event only. For wagstaff and pearl my arguement is you can't implement a coherent story without npcs. Daywalker is probably leading somewhere, can't say the same about frostjaw however cause it is charlies creation. Also a little drama birds are so rarely seen in normal gameplay that you can't even say they look out of place. You just want more environment updates ( i do too) but don't make a non-issue an issue while you're at it.

My point is that we are seeing too much sentinel creatures added without adding land or non sentinel creatures

I've thought about this and I'd have a diminishing returns on items sold. Even if you had 1000 spider glands, you couldn't sell all of them in a day. Same would go for potatoes ideally. Perhaps a selling bulk system would work.

Bottom line, there's a right way this can be done without outright breaking the game. That's what discussion is for. How would an economy with money work in a way that isn't just an item generator?

The npc's we have right now are kind of... fluff. They're not really much of anything. No one visits them and frost jaw isn't really a "Trader" either. He's just a boss with a convoluted drop system. I like what he provides. I think the bootleg is great, but it's really just a glorified drop at the end of the day, glorified by a less than direct way getting the drops outside of just killing him.

You could apply the principal to almost any boss.

Only PK, Queen monkey and a lil drama birds are sentinel, and charlie too but you only see her for 5 secs before she disapears. Maybe forstjaw too actually cause it's island is really small but he does walk. Before the update i thought we could get him as a follower cause of his dialogues. Would be neat.

I'd add a stipulation that any produce would only be sellable as giants. That would be cute. Figure out an entire transport system to ferry giant vegetables to the seller. Get some logistics in the mix.

And what's wrong with that?

Yoba forbid it brings a little bit of "life" and additional potentially fun interactions to the dull and borderline empty Constant.

(Speaking about Neutral/Friendly NPCs in general)

But the continent can be less empty and feel alive with actual fauna and flora not filling it with npcs and bosses on top of old content like a patch

One of the reason that makes me dislike newhome so much is how is filled with races and npcs. This franchise is a survival not an mmorpg, finding more charismatic talking furries breaks the loniless in a dangerous place atmosphere

Is just my opinion, maybe many people like it but im not one of those. Also this doesnt mean i don't like good additions like pearl

Ofc frostjaw is self conscious, they talk and trade. Isn't a wild animal

Thaz not what im saying. Im saying he walks so isn't a sentinel. You are critcizing too many sentinels when there are 3 arguably 2.

Sorry, when i wrote 'sentinel ' i was talking about intelligent mobs and npcs not the correct meaning of 'sentinel'. I mixed words

Honestly frostjaw is only as intelligent as pigs and stuff. It doesn't even have story relevance and can have multiple names like other followers.
