Why is Wigfrid, of all people, the one who gets beefalo riding perks?

I know she's bad at being a mount but her storage still remains useful. I've pitched in the past that what her skill tree should focus on is things you can do when she's not a mount like digging or fetching items as even if she's made into a good mount by design she'll never replace the reason Walter would prefer a beefalo.

She's not supposed to compete with ornery beefalo anyway. I don't want Woby's skill tree to literally boil down to "Now Walter has ONE limited shadow worker yipeeee!", it's a big reason why I hate the Uncompromising Mode Walter rework so much. Big Woby should compete with a rider beefalo in terms of value as time goes on, Walter should have his downsides remedied in some way or another and the reward for dealing with said downsides increased wayyy up, ornery beefalo and Woby could absolutely co-exist, but the fact that a rider completely replaces her is a terrible look for a perk.

Here's the problem Walters don't use a beefalo to be a rider beefalo so sure you could make her compete with a rider beefalo but it's not like most people are gonna use it. Why because Walter players use a beefalo for combat if your just riding around there's really no reason not to just use Woby even if she's slower. This would literally just be a brighter torch/lighter skill as Woby already clears the map really fast.

Rider beefalo is the true late game replacement to big woby tho. In the late game, bone armour and planar weapons exist to outcompete an ornery beefalo in terms of defence and offence. In the long run an ornery is just not worth taming for a Walter player... and if you can make it to the late game you dont need the defence a beefalo brings to combat, general travel speed is more important hence rider is better.

Even thulecite suit or marble suit makes his sanity loss a non-issue for bosses just because the damage reduction is so high. A hambat outcompetes an ornery beefalo in terms of dps.... and brightshade sword outcompetes ornery with war saddle...

My question becomes what's the point of a beefalo for Walter if your not using it in combat?

Rider beefalo are the fastest way of transportation...? I don't use ornery beefalo for Walter, rider beefalo are extremely fast and it saves you a lot of time once you get one going. They're my preferred tendency for every character. Walter should be made a lot better at combat on foot with his skill tree also, so I assume the need for an ornery would be drastically lower. Woby has a maximum speed of 10, and needs a monster meat a day to keep this speed or else she falls to 9 which is slower than an ornery with a default saddle (yikes). Rider beefalo with a glossamer saddle have a speed of 12.4.

Because of one unique combat situation which is bee queen. A beefalo defends against the extra damage that walter cant defend against with armour however a rider beefalo can still do this because you will be fighting her with a slingshot probably anyway you dont need a ornery.

And because a rider with a glossmer saddle is alot faster than big woby. Rider is the natural upgrade to her going into the late game.

Maybe it's just preference but I've never had a issue with Woby's speed but if it makes it as good for you guys I'm not against it I've just never heard of people going for a rider beef on Walter.

I play walter quite frequently, and Woby feels so underwhelming as a perk. There's no reason to use her even with an ornery because up-keeping her speed to be faster than a basic saddle untamed/ornery means spending 3 monster meat initially then 1 a day, even if we take Walter wanting an ornery beefalo into account she would be completely outclassed for transportation and completely useless in combat... How is this a good look for a perk? At that point Big Woby is just early game speed at that point and then chester for the rest of the game which undermines how big of a part she's supposed to contribute to Walter as a character.

I play Walter very often as well and I think your misunderstanding what I'm saying is I consider Woby's storage perk the good part and her riding ability passable. That being said at least from my experience even if you lower the cost of maintaining Woby and increase her speed a beefalo is still a more appealing option as it helps counter his downside.

The thing is riding big woby is really really good in the early game... you can rush marble statues, explore the map, assemble altar on lunar without needing to worry about crafting a saddle, bucking and beefalo being stupid around tentacles.

Once you get a mag/cane from ruins during first autumn or early winter the need for a mount for transport isnt as important this is when i start using big woby less and depend on wobys storage more as i ditch my piggyback for a mag. With a cane/mag and thulecite gear why do i need an ornery for combat anymore? I have speed and strong defence with higher dps with thulecite club/hambat.

So i agree that wobys storage is a really underrated perk, i would go so far to say its an integral perk in his kit allowing him to ditch a backback for body armour which is very important when combined with pinecone hat for fighting on foot, mag for speed boost and insulated clothing.

Walter's relationship with beefalos more-so exists because his downsides are clunky to play with and beefalo make it a lot more manageable, but ignoring the issue in the first place and making him more incentivized to get a beefalo is just not the play.

Wigfrid getting a rider tree doesn't matter to Walter, Woby should and probably will still get buffs to let her compete. An idea they could go through is to give Walter ways to upgrade her so that she eventually overlaps in value with rider beefalo, while lowering her upkeep cost to keep her speed high. Just like Bernie was powercrept by Abigail and Shadow duelists as a follower and was given a ton of buffs to let him compete, I am sure Woby will get the same treatment.

I have hope for the Walter skill tree seeing how they knocked it out of the park with most of the previous skill trees, but I hope people stop suggesting beefalo perks for Walter, give Woby a chance to actually become a good perk again! She hasn't been since Year of the beefalo.

But I never suggested a Beefalo perk, idk why people keep commenting me with this haha

I said Walter could get things like a "fighter Woby" or a special saddle craft (only if they make it so Woby can wear it). I agree that Walter getting a beefalo now is only used as a band aid for having a shitty Woby, and that if he gets a "rider skill tree" it should be ofc focused on Woby and not on Beefalos
