Issue with Strident Tridents effective use in normal gameplay

Recommended Posts

Just a thought I had today. This thing is almost never used outside of late late game servers that are more so permanent. The strident trident is only craftable by killing crab king and getting the blueprint. Crab king is a very powerful boss and I don't see the strident trident being so powerful that it needs to be boss locked. This, on top of the fact that almost no one will have 3 gnarwail horns at any point means you never see it in use. I think one solution would be to make gnarwails spawners more predictable. Perhaps a swarm of them could be summoned by the mega flare outside of winter. Otherwise, give gnarwails a biome so they can be found consistently.

I don't think that removing its boss locked status will make it see more use because the recipe is too tedious to craft, and I don't think the recipe needs changed because it would render gnarwails more so just a pest, rather than a means to acquire something cool like this trident. So I think gnarwails should be more predictable and farmable.

The weapon is god awful. Even if gnarwails can be farmed (you can with wicker's fish books) and the strident can be crafted without beating crap king (can also do this with a RNG klaus kill), it's damage potential is pathetic. 68 damage only on boats and 27.2 on land?

I am speaking this item on the weapon utility, because the other uses are actually useful. You can clear tons of sea stacks and EASILY farm massive amount of live fish with it and wicker's dock fish farm.

people saying that is useless... what a peasant. It comes in handy to fish, fight sharks, other gnarwhales and pirates, you can use sails at maximum speed and cleaning all the rock turds in your way, farm salt, unroot kelp...

is a good tool and range weapon, it just needs higher stats like how they treat malbatross oar

getting 2 gnarwales horns isnt hard (green amulet) and once you have them you dont have to worry about farming more since you can deconstruct it to craft a fresh one

why interact with ocean content after making boat bridges or docks aside from maybe getting more kelp once and never using the trident after that

being able to connect things with docks depends on world gen, most of the time you wil need a boat

if you only play for the survival content you might not be interested in experience all the ocean content or to keep farming resources like salt, giant trees or sunken chests for decor

sailing is an unique and fun experience in the game, personally i don't want to grind docks to ruin that

using the trident as weapon/tool is also unique and fun

ocean is far from finished

you could still practically always make a boat bridge like how people were doing before docks got added

we're talking about how useful it is atm since we don't know what exactly they'll add to it in the future
