What characters do you think are most likely to be paired in the survival guides?

Recommended Posts

Assuming survivors skill trees continue to be paired with survival guide shorts, which characters do you think will be most likely to be paired to fit a theme? The last short, Firewood, involved a Woodie, a woodcutter and Wormwood, a living plant, so what other shared pairings dso you think are likely? Personally, I see:

Walter & Willow - Survival Guide: fire safety

I think this is probably the most likely to be in the next set of skill trees, as they were both in the Terrors Below title screen despite not appearing in the trailer for some reason? I don't know how common that is, but seems odd. Both have at least one perk relating to fire, Either way, the humor would write itself- a pyromaniac and a scout. Walter  tries to set up a fire pit properly while willow starts setting everything on fire.

Potential 3rds: Wickerbottom, Wortox, Winona, Warly

Wendy & Maxwell - Survival Guide: Dark Magic

Probably the most likely to be paired IMO. The Carters haven't shared much screen time, while being two of the few survivors two use nightmare fuel in their main personal crafts (Codex Umbra and Abigail's Flower), along with Wanda (Time Pieces). Additionally, if Klei felt like hijacking a survival guide's lighter tone with more relevance to from beyond, it would probably be already themed after dark magic.

Potential 3rd's: Wanda, Winona, Webber (Hopefully not but knowing Klei)

Wes & Wigfrid - Survival Guide: Entertainment

Another pairing that is fairly self-explanatory:both were performers in and out of the constant. While the setup isn't as immediately entertaining as fire safety, it's a still a strong thematic link that could serve as the basis of a short.

Potential 3rd's: Wurt, Wickerbottom, Walter, Maxwell

Well, for starters, here are my base assumptions

  1. We will get one paid character per skill tree release, if any.
  2. We will continue to get them in waves of three.
  3. The characters will feature some sort of thematic link.

In regard to #3, I think Wolfgang may have been intended as a "woodcutter" of sorts, given his faster chopping while mighty. I'm unconvinced that we're gonna get 2 themed chars and 1 irrelevant one.

My take is the next one will be Winona, Wanda and WX. All three of them make use of machines on the regular, which ties into W.A.R.B.I.S quite nicely.

I think Maxwell will be the only shadow-locked character in terms of allignment unless they drop more lore regarding Willow's alliance with the shadows. I also think he'll be the last to show up.

In terms of other potential pairings, here are some rough guesses of possible combinations

  • Book readers - Maxwell, Wurt, Wickerbottom
  • Companion-havers - Willow, Wendy, Walter
  • Children - Some combination of Wurt/Walter/Wendy/Webber
  • People messing with powerful forces - Wicker, Wanda, Maxwell, Wortox
  • Your idea of entertainers, but adding in Warly, as while food isn't entertainment per se, it's definitely a leisure activity and he was a sous chef before he moved in with his mum to take care of her.
  • Characters specificially using shadow magic - Wanda, Willow, Maxwell

I think "Hated by pigs" is unlikely to happen as it'd entail two spool-woven characters in the same update, unless Wonkey is a candidate in which case Wortox, Webber and Wonkey could be "Hated by pigs and bunnies".

I don't think that should be the main criteria for locking alignment. I see it as power dependancy - Wormwood was literally created by a shard of the Moon.

As such I think both Maxwell, Wendy and Maybe WX-78 Could be alignment locked. Both Wendy's and Maxwells powers are entirely dependent on Shadows, and at least in Wendy's case, lunar aspect weakens hers (Her inspect quote for celestial crown).

That's just my thoughts anyway. Otherwise, Wilson, who has been clearly shown helping Wagstaff, would be lunar locked.

WX will 100% not be allignment locked. W.A.R.B.I.S was invented in direct response to them, and they have been shown to be practically obsessed with the moon. Yes they hate Wagstaff but they like the moon far too much for that to matter + there's no way klei won't give them W.A.R.B.I.S related abilities.

I should also point out that Woodie's powers are lunar-based to some degree, yet he has a shadow path, whilst Wolfgang's muscles are codex-powered yet he has a lunar path.

Good points.

The only reason I had WX-78 on there is that they'd probably want to balance the number of alignment-locked chraracters for each entity.

You make a good point about Woody and Wolfgang, but i still really don't see an alignment path on the lunar side for Wendy when concentrated being connected to the lunar entity makes it harder for Wendy to see Abigail.

On a full moon, ghosts are out of their graves, so there can be a lunar branch for Wendy.

i think wx and wendy could be a funny candidate, both are dead inside and hate living things. the theme could be hunting rabbits, i guess? i could see wendy not being particularly excited about it and wx just scaring away the rabbits instead

Willow + Wx-78

Cooking in you (cooking and you spoof)

You have Willow pulling out a fresh turkey dinner out from Wx-78. (Or trying to push a live, fully garnished, tied on a silver platter, apple in the mouth, gobbler into roaring flames protruding from the hollow cavity of Wx-78's chest; if you want to go dark.)

Bonus points if Warly is in the background terrified.
