A small thank you to the devs for fixing the attack related bugs

Recommended Posts

I just want to say thank you to the devs for taking the time to finally look into fixing multiple bugs related to attacking in recent weeks. I've been complaining about inconsistent attack speed for years and since these changes were implemented combat has already felt way better in every conceivable way. This was probably my single most desired change and it makes me hopeful that the devs are willing to look into and fix any longstanding issue now :wilson_blush:

For now, I'm hopeful that we see something implemented to address the awful input lag when caves are enabled sometime in the foreseeable future, but tbh the fact that this was fixed is already enough to make me happy

They should implement the dont starve alone mod into vanilla. At least it would fix it when playing solo.

Also, i dont see the patch notes. Where was it fixed?

In particular:

  • Removed a frame delay when initiating or repeating actions while you are already close enough to your target.

I have been appreciating the change quite a bit. The consistency has been really nice. I imagine it won’t impact things significantly for a lot of people, but I do notice the difference and I do appreciate it!

inconsistent attack speed

Do you mean the increase of attack speed after recent patches?

I have noticed that attack speed goes roughly 1 frame faster than previous versions, from (usually around) 15 frames to (usually around) 14 frames.

  • Before the Year of the Bunnyman update (or somewhere around that time), attack speed was randomly either 0.433 seconds or 0.466 seconds (corresponding to 13/30 frames or 14/30 frames)
  • After the Year of the Bunnyman update (or somewhere around that time), attack speed increased to randomly either 0.466 seconds or 0.5 seconds (corresponding to 14/30 frames or 15/30 frames)
  • Now, attack speed is 0.466 seconds and does not change.

OMG you're awesome!

Does this conclusion come from gameplay experience statistics, or concluded solely from the codes?

As far as I'm aware the code just lists it as 0.4.

huh?

The joke is that (long-standing) bugs that hinder the player are features that we are intended to deal with because it makes things uncompromising/difficult, so fixing them takes that away.
