How much memory you need to be a good host in 2023

Been awhile since I personally hosted a world, so here is my question.

what are the recommended system requirments to be a good host?

I have 4 gb of memory, is that enough to host a world for two players?

It's okay for a 2 people world but still be mindful about the amount of things at every place, like not leaving millions of items on the ground or going heavy on certain decorations. I'd keep the game at "middle sized base" and not megabase either. And keep spiders and bees populations controlled.

If I had to recommend generally, I'd say for 2-4 people, at very least 8GB and preferably in a dedicated server if the computer is only a server, or for a hosted or play at same computer as the server, 12GB or more.

I host a dedicated with 16gb of ram and 400 mb internet bandwith, all playing from relatively near places, and when we have 4+ people we get occasional hiccups.

What if I will play alone then? does DST server will require less memory and be more stable?

Yes.
The rules of megabasing, leaving mobs reproduce non stop, abusing mods, dropping a lot of items on the ground, playing with a lot of people, etc still appply though, the bigger you want to go in your game, the more ram it will consume.
But generally speaking, if you play alone or you play in a dedicated server where you have less than 150 ping, the game should run better.

I'm not saying you should play alone though. It's worth trying to host or playing with other people if you can, the game is better with other people IMO.

At this point 4gb is barely enough to do anything, let alone hosting for multiple people. I play alone and dst usually makes my pc use up to 5-6gb of ram (and that's not opening anything else).

8gb is minimum, but 16 gb would be best.

I host multiple games on my server (so the total RAM usage below is irrelevant), with an Endless DST server.

It's not modded, it has both surface and caves enabled, and about 1500 days in.

This is the resources it takes:

About 2.4 GB RAM. It didn't take more when I logged in, just the CPU usage changed. But I assume it will, if multiple other players log in too.

Anyway, the answer to your quesiton is yes, if you host on a server solely for that purpose.
If you want to host it on your desktop machine, then no.

When playing alone, I would recommend the mod "don't starve alone". It basically removes the cave lag. Was a life saver when I was playing on my old laptop, still use it for my solo worlds.
