Don't know where to put this, but boat and gate bug to get out of bounds

Recommended Posts

If you put a gate at the very edge of your boat, opening inwards, you can force yourself out of bounds by having the gate right against the boundary wall, standing at the edge of the boat in the gate, and shutting it

I think that this only works in "godmode", as a soon as you walk on water, you drown.

I'm unsure, I'll try to recreate it later, I also remember it softlocking you if you try to interact with the gate again while out of bounds

heres the video, i did not have godmode enabled while doing it

something else i found out, if your boat is moving and you build a structure on it, there's a high chance that it's not going to be on the building grid properly

Post it here, if wanting: Klei's DST Bug Tracker.

Can't say this bug is useful in any form, aside "Lulz, I'm Jezus!" memes, to be classified as an exploit and prioritized for fix. Can you drop, let's say a Krampus Sack in that "watery abyss" to store rare loot? Or does such action delete the Sack completely? Because for any other container I think insta-deletion occurs. Can you place another boat in that "abyss"?

It seems a harmless bug to me, in the caves you can use the void to bypass many obstacles or reach the atrium, up there there is literally nothing and returning to the ocean will get you to sink instantly.

Test the /rescue command to see if it works there too or what does it do, for science.

I hope they don't fix this bug, it's one of those ''opt in'' bugs that you'd almost never discover unless you were intentionally trying to break the game....and if that's really how you want to play then why not?

It's the same as void in the caves

So it turn out that if you walk out of bounds far enough, it crashes your game

That is exactly why bugs and glitches are supposed to be fixed.

I don't really agree if it's a situation where you have to go so far out of bounds to trigger it. Many games keep bugs that players discover over the years that aren't harmful, when Nintendo remade Majora's mask they intentionally kept a lot of bugs in it, like being able to use the fierce diety mask outside of boss battles because you had to intentionally trigger it in a convoluted method that the average player would never discover and didn't really harm the experience.

Like there's a difference between a but that crashes your game and deletes your save data, and a bug that you have to trigger by turning 360 degrees on the center pixel of the outside edge of the map while singing and eating doritos to teleport to a different area. A lot of games have entire communities that have expanded the life cycle of games and speedrunning through glitches, one such example is Paper Mario.

You can use this bug to cheat kill the ancient fuelweaver. You place a lureplant or spider den between one of the statues at the edge of the arena, to prevent it from reaching the gate, then you just lure it there, telepoof (or sometimes even just run) away to the gate you placed at the opposite end of the arena, go out of bounds, disable lag compensation in the options menu and then whack the stuck fuelweaver without ever taking damage.

You can also use it as a shortcut in the caves, travel between branches really easily. I always use this when there is a cave entrance near the ruins, I just go to the cave entrance through the void and then do a rescue command to get back inside the map.

I consider this cheating, because it's on par with the environmental pinger mod. It gives an unfair advantage to people who use it over people who actually have to prep for the fuelweaver fight. It makes farming the fuelweaver really convenient though, so I use it regularly.

I'm on the opinion that it should be fixed nevertheless.

Also, my picture is more then two years old, but it still works all the same.
