The steam deck uses default controller configuration, can't be changed for some reason, jt doesn't register any keyboard presses because of that, I think it's an issue with the proximity based controller setup and mouse based point and click style, would be a nightmare to code. Ginosaji
We had a similar topic 2 months ago. We came to the conclusion that for the Steam Deck running Steam OS you can use a little tool that automatically disables the Steam Deck's built-in controller if there are certain other input devices connected to the console either through USB using the Deck in docked mode or i believe it may works through bluetooth connection as well? But that's the only solution we have for now. It's not the best but I'm able to play dst with m+kb using my Steam Deck in docked mode. Logsphinx
The game only allows you to use the built-in controller to be user-friendly. Another way to use the mouse and keyboard is to launch the linux version of the game (DST > Settings Icon > Properties > Compatibility > Check the box > Select Steam Linux Runtime). You can even assign any key you want to any button on the Steam Deck but it's complicated and time consuming. If you want to use the built-in controller again, you may have to uncheck the box. Be aware, the Steam Deck will download the correct version of the game each time you modify its version. Choose your preferred method according to what you need. This method is useful if you want to use Steam Input to adapt the controls to your needs. Not very user friendly if it can't be modified Ingame or even in the controller settings. BendingUnit647
If the game is run on a Steam Deck from gaming mode, you get controller support. @Logsphinx described above how to run the game with keyboard instead. However, the problem of not being able to use a keyboard if you are also using a controller isn't just a Steam Deck thing. The two input methods appear to be mutually exclusive. In addition to being locked out of the console when you pair a controller, you are also blocked from using a real keyboard in the search box of the crafting menu. TidMiste
It's a bit more problematic than just the dual controller/keyboard though. For instance, I run my Steam Deck on dock with a TV, and use a keyboard and mouse as my primary input devices. On no other game have I had an issue, but in DST, not only was I blindsided by complete unresponsiveness, but the option to change input methods was disabled entirely. I was forced to find a controller to use just to select menu options and start up the game. While the workaround is fine and all, it's not a real solution to the problem; the problem being, of course, that the actual option to change it is simply greyed out from being altered. If it requires a restart of the game to make it work, I'd accept that happily, but I shouldn't have to use launch options to get a Steam Deck-compatible game to work as expected, even using different input devices.
