Sailing branch: ability to craft bandana and wooden sword, ability to craft battle paddle and prime mate hat, more efficiency with boating equipment, etc.

I feel like we don't need the ability to craft the sword or the bandanna, you already get hojillions of them from monkey raids and the latter can be sewn while the former is pretty useless.

Shadow affinity: able to recruit splumonkeys for one banana each. Will follow you and fight for you, can have up to 4.

I understand the desire to have more interactions with the one other monkey type in the game, but A: even Wilbur didn't get anything with them and B: I feel like there's enough character specific minions already. Merms, Spiders, Abigail, Bernie, Shadow duelists, Grumblebees, Saladmanders/Carrats, etc. I'd rather Wonkey not become another one of those types of characters, especially because stuff like a minion being able to pick up items for you would be much better off being added as a feature of pigs and/or bunnies, which are minions everyone has access to.

Lunar affinity: can give a banana to the Unnatural Portal to spawn a pirate powder monkey follower. They are generally weaker than splumonkeys in combat, but offer more utility. If you are on a boat with no sails but a steering wheel, they will paddle in the direction that you steer the boat, being faster than sails and far quicker to adjust direction. Getting off the wheel will make them paddle in whatever direction opposes current direction to make the boat stop nearly instantly. They will not assist you in paddling without a steering wheel so you can still travel slowly and carefully when approaching land. They can also fight but only do the damage of a wooden sword so it's not great. (I think it would be fun to get a pirate raid while you have your own little gang of pirate monkeys so you can battle on the seas). It goes without saying but they do not drop a trinket on death. Can have up to 4

Similar to before, I think it would be a lot better if features like the ability to help you navigate your boat were given to pigs. I appreciate that there is a strong desire to be friends with every member of the constant, but I feel like being unable to befriend the Monkeys was a good choice on Klei's part, and I'd rather Wonkey be something other than just Wilbur but DST. (Not against the poop throwing though).

I know it probably feels like I'm being overly nitpicky/critical, but Wonkey doesn't have a whole lot going for them right now, so I hope that whatever skill tree they do get (if any) can make them unique and interesting.

Trust me, you didn't come off as overly nitpicky or critical. I know my ideas aren't perfect and I like a response like yours a lot better than just "yes, I like it" or "no, I hate it"

I agree that it's a useless perk later, I think it would still make sense to have it if Wonkey was available from the start. A cheap early game weapon and an early game hat to help with sailing doesn't seem too useless. It's kinda like Woodie's cane and helmet, how they are both useless after the first autumn, but nice to have before. I know the best thing about this tree would be the battle paddle. I just figured it made sense to start with the sword and bandana.

The two alignments were definitely the laziest part of my suggestion. I just kinda connected the dots that one group of monkeys have a direct tie to the shadows while the other group has a direct tie to Wagstaff so my brain just went "mmm yes, a pattern". I figure if he does get a skill tree, the lunar alignment almost has to involve the unnatural portal/powder monkeys while the shadow alignment almost has to involve shadow splumonkeys. Whether that is a follower based perk or not is up in the air but it seems too perfect to not involve those two groups.

I will say I stand by the lunar affinity perk though, as I don't think it would make sense for pigs to be able to help with sailing. I think the monkeys would be a good follower for ocean travel while being very mediocre on land. The follower cliché is done to death but none of them are really meant for ocean combat besides that one spider and maybe Wicker's bees just because they fly. These followers would stand out by offering more utility for sailing.
