so this is a bit of a dump post, but I just wanted to share some of my Webber ideas I had floating around my head. Webber has a bit of an issue with having a ton of spiders to control, I get that it makes sense knowing spiders are pretty stupid and all, but what if the spiders could be controlled with some kind of item? in a sort of way of how an RTS game would control units by drag clicking and right clicking to control each spider. being able to tame spider queens is also an idea I bet many people have asked for but it'd still be cool, you can definitely already use spider queens to your advantage by setting up tier 3 dens, but it's kind of a hassle to set up, it would be nicer if you could just tame them with a bunch of meat. Alternatively it'd be cool with a new type of spider that is kind of an in-between of the spider queen and the other spiders which you could have 1-3 of on your team at a time, it'd be a large type of spider the size of... a rook maybe? they could even function like a rook, but they'd have around 600-1000 hp. OK that's it, bit of a random post but ok bye.

I would argue that the biggest issue with Webber right now is that his spiders have lost their main upside when compared to merms, that being cheapness and disposability. IMO a BIG qol boost would be the ability to create private homes for spiders, making that one spider respawn in the private home when placed inside, as well as TP to it. That way spitters, nurse spiders, etc, would be able to be more easily stashed away when not being used, and you wouldn't have to blow 4 nitre to restore a single spider.

tbh i think webber is kinda fine as he is, he has far much more control over his followers than other characters. his only issue that i see is lag, as accumulating a spider army can end up crashing a server (speaking from experience)

Somewhat related to Webber, but a way to dismiss merms (or any followers really) would be greatly appreciated. It's not as big of a deal with merms since (at least guards) don't tend to eat things left on the ground, but pigmen do, and if you're leaving deerclops eyes, guardian horns, or pig skin lying around then it can really suck to lose that because a pigman followed you home after you were finished with whatever you hired it to do.

As for Webber, I still wish something more was added to his interactions with spider queens, maybe a way to coax nurse spiders out without having to attack the queen. I can't really think of much else wrong with the character, rushing the ruins with an army of spiders is still one of my all time favorite moments I've had playing this game.

you can actually dismiss all merms at once, by killing a fish in your inventory.

you can order them to kill one of their own(unless you're near other merms which aren't your followers, that would start a little civil war), pick the fish up and kill it.

I agree. Sure, Webber can accumulate his army pretty fast, but unlike other minion characters, if his army dies, you gotta do it all again.

Wurt's guards respawn in 4 minutes, Maxwell can just summon more duelists whenever he pleases, even Wicker can just use a few bee books and get her little bee squad back, but if you want to get more spiders like spitters and nurses, you'd either need to go through a lengthy process of getting them from caves/spider queen(both of which have their tedious moments, like having to manually transfer spiders through sinkholes in inventory), or spend a bunch of resources on switcherdoodles(not as bad with nurses, as it just needs honey, but 4 nitre per spitter can hurt).

Now, you might say "it's the player's fault for letting their spiders die", and I mean, I guess, but my main problem with them being harder to replace is that it limits their use cases. What I love about merms, is that I can take them into most battles, even knowing they would die, because they would come back again. But with Webber's spiders? There's only a few battles where you can reliably use spiders without a major threat to them(sure, you can also use them for help with regular mobs, but they have the tendency to eat meat you get, if you're not fast enough).

There're many ways to tackle this issue: making switcher doodles cheaper and easier to make in bulk, making "private homes" for spiders, like you proposed, etc.

I do agree switcher doodles should be cheaper but something often overlooked is if you get high tier spiders alongside nurses they're also the most durable followers the game offers because the nurse in almost every scenario will out heal any damage they take making them capable of taking on bosses most other followers cannot.
