Shadow Servants for Farming

Just wondering about the role of Shadow Servants on farming.

I'm not entirely against them watering the crops, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense(although perhaps I shouldn't try to find sense in literal magic).

Maxwell already has more than enough going for him. He doesnt need to also become a farming character. 

Or maybe he should since klei obviously doesnt mind. He can read all of wicker’s books after all, including practical rain rituals.
