No waste giant crop cycle for Creamy Potato Purée and Salsa Fresca as Wickerbottom.

Recommended Posts

The Purée (1 garlic, 2 potato, 1 filler) and Salsa Fresca (1 onion, 1 toma, 2 filler) are the best pre-banana bush sanity recipes for Wickerbottom imo because they can be made entirely with Horticulture books, they dont require ice, honey, milk, leafy meat, drying racks or periodic cactus picking.

Because 4 arrow crops (garlic, onion) are annoying to feed and theres no auto-combo that doesnt require extra tilling and planting for garbage crops, i initially just Horticulture'd them in batches of 15 but i quickly got tired of that much tilling so i sat down to figure something else out and this is the result. I thought id share it here.

This cycle uses 4 farm plots and can be multiplied to 8, 12 etc. With Rain Rituals covering watering and Horticulture+juicy bushes supplying all ur fillers u can go as big as u want without much effort! And fuel all ur spell casting needs with a neat and tidy crop cycle.

First you start with 3 garlic and 6 potatoes in each plot. Arrange them in such a way that the 3 garlics of one plot are touching that of the other so they achieve the family bonus. Feed each plot with 6 arrows of manure (6 poop or 3 guano) and 6 arrows of compost (6 rot or 2 compost). And you'll get this:

(you'll note these are 6 plots not 8 but thats because i ran out of potato seeds this time, do as i say not as i do )

After the purée crops come the salsa crops. And this is where the 4 plot system starts to matter. Salsa fresca is made with an equal amount of onions and tomatoes so an equal amount of giant crops is the goal.

After the purée crops the plots are maxed out on Growth Formula (12 arrows). Both onions and tomatoes need growth formula.

Plant 1 plot with 9 tomatoes (or 10) and feed it 9 rot (or 10). Plant the other 3 plots with 3 onions each without feeding it anything. And this is what you'll get:

Thats 18 giant onions and 18 giant tomatoes out of 8 plots. or roughly 50 salsa frescas.

After the salsa fresca cycle u can start a new purée cycle. On the 3 onion plots u never have to add nutrients again. Turns out 3 onions and 3+6 garlic/potato create a perfect cycle! On the 1 tomato plot you'll have to add 6 rot and nothing else.

After the initial cost of 6 poop and 6 rot per plot the upkeep is only 15 (or 16) rot for every 4 plots. The designated tomato plot is the only one that requires feeding. 9 rot for 9 tomatoes and afterwards 6 rot for the purée combo.

As filler for both recipes i use Juicy Berries which i grow with Horticulture Expanded (JBB world is essential as Wicker imo). I harvest everything with my Insulated Pack and bundle them for Winter when i cook everything.

The End.

Doesn't Horticulture Expanded already give full happiness regardless of the conditions?

No, killjoys can still reduce the amount of seeds u get back. Plus u have to provide the family bonus and iirc out of season crops need water too if u want 2 seeds back. Expanded basically covers nutrients and tending and thats it im pretty sure.

but what exactly out of my post are u responding to btw? hort cant grow giants

I am confused as to what this has to do with Wickerbottom specifically.
I do this sort of thing with Wormwood all the time. Wickerbottom's horticulture books make it so crops cannot grow to giant iirc so this is just a gardening guide somewhat yea?

Also if you have an abundance of Ice you can grow 12 Watermelon + 6 Onion on one side and 12 Toma + 6 Dragonfruit on the other. You can make Melonsicles, Salsa, and Dragon Pie during Spring and Summer.
During Fall and Winter I do a + shape of 8 Pumpkin, 8 Potato, 4 Garlic, you can add in 1 pump 1 pot and 1 asparagus/corn (winter and fall dependent) in the corner if you want. For Puree and just Pumpkin which is a large food boost or can be used in Cookies.

and rain rituals allows this 4 plot setup to be expanded as many times as u want without becoming tied to watering cans.

Ice recipes double the labor required between farming giants and gathering ice. And wickerbottom needs much more sanity food than your average survivor.

I specifically made this post to share this cycle because the +33 sanity dishes it makes only require farming and juicy berry filler grown on demand with horticulture. And thanks to rain rituals u can produce this sanity food on an industrial scale which wickerbottom needs without too much effort.

I completely missed the Berry filling. That makes so much sense. So the book is for the berries not the plants (well for the plants just to get them an excess of seeds) which you desire as giant scale.
