kittem
title. yes, i have a 64-bit laptop. no, that doesnt mean its the same. the way i have lag now is double compared to back when it was 32 bit only. ("wait, but wasnt that update a year ago?" you may ask. yes.) i dont know how to change back, i've tried looking it up before. no, there is no "steam asking if i want to start in 32 or 64 bit." no, when i try to go to DST's files and open the game from regular "bin" instead of "bin64," it does not work i'd prefer a solution that didnt mean having to go trough 5 million steps every time i want to play but its ok if thats the only option Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/138418-how-do-i-change-to-32-bit-for-good/ Share on other sites

PuffinBy
If you're experiencing lag, try disabling your anti-virus software while running dst, including windows defender. I noticed their scanning could bring great lag while the game's running. If you insist running the 32 bit version, you might also want to enable small texture or texture streaming options in game, or the game will often crash due to "out of memory". Steam will ask you which version you wish to launch only when you launch it from steam library. Any other method will open the 64 bit version by default. I'm currently using this launch option to force steam to run the 32 bit dst, no matter launching it from inside or outside of steam library. Spoiler "…\Don't Starve Together\bin\dontstarve_steam.exe" %command% Just put it in dst's launch options. Note that you should use the real dictionary to your 32 bit dontstarve_steam.exe. For example, if you installed dst in steam folder. (Don't leave out the quotes) Spoiler "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together\bin\dontstarve_steam.exe" %command% Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/138418-how-do-i-change-to-32-bit-for-good/#findComment-1550332 Share on other sites

I have the same issues with the 64 bit version, and tried every possible hack to always launch the 32 bit one (including yours) but none of them worked. How did you make this work exactly? I added the DST folder as an exception in Defender, haven't noticed any changes so far, but not a bad tip. Also, the 32 bit version launches my 600 days self-hosted world in a minute and runs fine, the 64 bit one takes 15 minutes (!!!!!!!!) to launch and is unplayable. It makes me wonder why people wanted this in the first place, there is nothing wrong with the old version. Does everyone else run DST on a hadron collider PC or something...? Did you change this part ("…\Don't Starve Together\bin\dontstarve_steam.exe") to your actual install dictionary? And don't get me wrong, the launch parameter does not skip Steam's launch option pop up, but forces Steam to start the 32 bit version whichever your choose. To skip the pop up, you just have to add a shortcut to either your desktop or inside Steam library. I thought that's also a replacement for some actual launch options, but it needs that literally. For example with this in Steam's "Launch options" all shortcuts launch the 23 bit version with tick_rate set to 60: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together\bin\dontstarve_steam.exe" %command% -tick_rate 60 So it works after all.
