Parusoid Posted March 15, 2022 Share Posted March 15, 2022 Currently the only way to deal with hound waves at later stages is building various hound killing machines and be ready to stop doing what you were doing and run to the traps as soon as you hear hound barking My suggestion is to introduce mechanic that would either delay next hound wave or reduce hound count in next hound wave. The first thing that comes to my mind would be Vargs - the more Vargs you kill the more next hound wave would be delayed / hound count in wave reduced. Alternatively instead of considering Varg kills, take into account the hounds summoned by Varg - more Varg's hounds are killed means more time before next hound wave. Because the beta branch made hounds wait up to 4x as long as they used to before attacking (from 3-7 days to 11-16), and said waves are half the size since a varglets replaced so many of the hounds. You can just fight them. If you have good +~40fps and <~100ping try the following if you cant run the game with good fps and good connection just ignore my comment and i would suggest you to edit the settings since there is no point of suffer default hound waves if you are laggy, is not fair for the player so there is not shame on it: everytime you hear the hound go next to your hound area but dont use it, kill every hound at the time they spawn so they dont acumulate and if you get more than 1 try to sinc their atacks so you can kite them at the same time. Remember that a black hound is killed with 3 hits of a fresh hambat, tentacle spike, dark sword or glass cutter and the elemental ones with just 2 so try to kill the elemental ones first because also their dying effect will help you. You can hit 1 time and run hit 1 time and run, etc but run in circles so you can make a curve and bait the atack of all of them so you have room to hit them (in that way you sync their atacks). If there are ice hounds try to kill one of them near the black ones to freeze them for a moment and if there are red hounds try to kill them and put the fire of their dead between you and the hounds because the fire will damage them and prevent their atacks so you can deal with the red ones while the black ones are distracted. If you feel overwhelmed just move a little to your trap area and finish them there, try again in the next wave. i had the same problem as you 3 years ago, the game was boring for me because of needing to stop to deal with them by standing still in the middle of a trap field and later needing to reset and craft more traps which is so damn tireshome.So one day i decided to stop crafting them and use the one i already crafted if i got overwhelmed and little by little the traps were breaking and i needed less of their help. Now i never build hound traps and i have more fun than ever. Ofc sometimes you get hit or even stunlock to dead but is worth just for how boring is to deal with hounds with traps also makes you able to dont care about them during boss fights because you already will know how to deal with them so no more "waiting for the hound wave to happend" or "despawn the boss to run to hound traps" which is frustrating and boring. I'm on something like day 250 right now and haven't made a single hound trap. Even if someone were too ill prepared in equipment and/or skill the waves come so infrequently that going to a trap would probably not be too annoying.
