A guide to hexagon farming? Idk.

Recommended Posts

Hello. After trying to find a guide for hexagon crop combo layouts that have 1:1:1 nutrition ratios, I couldn't find one. So after experimenting with hexagon crop layouts, I have very very roughly found some crop combos you could use, so you wont have to fertilise at all (unless the soil is nutrition-poor to begin with). I can only give one example of what the auto-feeding hex layout would look like, cos i can only post 4. something megabytes. I planted this way using the Snapping Tills mod, and then switching to the hexagon placement mode by pressing L.

AUTUMN:
Garlic Autumn:

Mid Garlic, Outer Pumpkin/Carrot, Potato/Eggplant.

Pepper Autumn:
Mid Pepper, Outer Pumpkin/Carrot, Corn.

Onion Autumn:
Mid Onion, Outer Potato/Eggplant, Corn.

Potato/Eggplant Tomaroot Autumn:
5 potatoes OR 5 eggplants,and then 5 tomaroots.

WINTER:
Garlic Winter:
Mid Garlic, Outer Pumpkin/Carrot, Potato.

SPRING:
Onion Spring:

Mid Onion, Outer Potato/Eggplant, Corn/Asparagus.

Dragonfruit Spring:
Mid Dragonfruit, Outer Carrot, Corn/Asparagus.

Durian Spring:
Mid Durian, Outer Potato/Eggplant, Carrot.

Garlic Spring (Essentially the same as Durian Spring and Garlic Autumn):
Mid Garlic, Outer Pumpkin/Carrot, Potato/Eggplant.

Pomegranate Spring:
Mid Pomegranate, Outer Potato/Eggplant, Corn/Asparagus.

Potato/Eggplant Tomaroot Spring:
5 potatoes OR eggplants, then 5 tomaroots.

Watermelon Carrot Spring:
5 watermelons and 5 carrots.

Here are some smaller combos, although they'll only get you 8 giant crops. (NOT RECOMMENDED, USE GRID LAYOUTS INSTEAD).
Small Pepper Autumn Summer:
Mid pepper, Outer Toma Root.

Small Dragonfruit Spring Summer:
Mid Dragonfruit, Outer Toma Root.

Small Onion/Pomegranate Spring Summer:
Mid Onion/Pomegranate, Outer Watermelon.

Small Garlic and Durian cannot be done as no other seeds are suitable in supplying the nutrition for these, while being able to become giant too. Unless I have messed up the testing. I may have messed it up, idk. I kinda eyeballed the testing for this.

Extra Info:

Why Hexagon Farm? I think it gets you one more big crop per farm tile, as using a grid placement only allows you to place 9 seeds per farm tile. It also looks nicer maybe depending on your preference. Also, "Hexagons are the Bestagons!" - CGP Grey.

Why can't other veggies/fruits be in the mid too? Why only just the ones listed can be in the mid? Because the crops in the mid, have the take and give nutrition pattern of 16, 32, 16, or 16, 16, 32, or 32, 16, 16. The crops that have the nutrition give & take pattern of 8, 8, 16 or 16, 8, 8, or 8, 16, 8, just dont give enough nutrients to support the outer crops. I have tried to put the lower taking and giving crops in the mid, but i couldnt come up with anything that would support them in a 1:1:1 hexagon ratio. Although, if you do manage to find a combo, please reveal.

Why aren't there any full hexagon summer layouts? No matter what i have tried, i could not manage to find a perfect hexagon crop layout for summer, so you'll have to switch up to grid placements for planting giants in summer. I did say i eyeballed the testing, so if you find a way, pls reveal.

Are there other ways to achieve no nutrition loss other than using the layout in figure 1? Yup, there are other ways. This way just seemed the most simple to me. There is a nice sketch by someone else below showcasing another way.

Why do dis? I saw another dst player, using the Garlic Autumn layout, which made me wonder if there were other 1:1:1 hexagon crop layouts.

I've played the Shipwrecked mod and I noticed they added the Sweet Potato seed in, which is compatible with the Reap What you Sow Update. Any perfect combos with this? Nope. I have tried to get a perfect combo with this plant, but to no avail. The reason is that it doesn't follow the main conventions of the other crop seeds (sweet potato gives only 1 nutrient back, not 2 like the others). Sweet potato is best as a side plant.

Enjoy! If you need anymore info, feel free to ask. And if i have made a mistake, please tell me. I will try to edit accordingly? When I am free.

Huh, interesting layout. Usually when I till hexagon, I use it to farm 2:2:1 using 2 medium nutrition crops and 1 heavy nutrition crop, planting my plants like the chart below. Such combos exist for Autumn, Winter and Spring.
