The perfect templates is just the vanilla character eyes, noses and mouths. You can export their files to get access to their faces, pick what style you like the most and try to emulate. If that isn't enough there is probably thousands of mod characters you can do the same too. Or screen cap skins/dlc characters for something to trace and reference from.

I do have to say there is some trends however before the addition of DLC character's I would of said that White pupilless eyed characters are having mental issues.

  • Willow: is a pyromaniac
  • Wendy: has sisterly traumas
  • Woodie: Is cursed
  • Webber: Is a monster
  • Wigfrid: Delusionally thinks she is a viking


Where as the black beady eyes of:

  • Wilson: Main Protagonist in sp
  • Maxwell: Main Antagonist in sp
  • Wolfgang: Seems to be a normal guy from the circus
  • Wes: Seems to be a normal mime
  • Wickerbottom: Unknown what her backstory is at this time, but she seems to talk fairly normally.

All seem to have fairly normal quotes and traits. This is only reinforced by some of the more lore important additions:
Wagstaff and Winona who both seem to be fairly aware of things.

The remaining cast:
Wx78: Is a robot who hates living things, has large eyes devoid of a soul.

Wurt, Wortox and Wilbur are all based on monsters of the constant: Notably wurt has white eyes despite merms having pupils which makes me believe it could be related to innocence as well, still not aware of the world yet. This would explain walter who clearly doesn't understand how dangerous the constant is from his trailer. To a degree it could also explain wormwood although I think that is more of a artistic choice as the white eyes are quite common on nonhuman entities. Where as the beady black eyes are only used by human like characters at this time, with the exception of wilba who is to this date the only nonhuman character who has black beady eyes similar to her other pig kind.

Warly and the rest of the sw crew I think were made by a different team before klei took over, so its hard to say. So I got no clue what the art direction or back story of most of these characters really holds.

The newest and most mysterious character's wheeler and wanda are just a mystery for now. Although wanda has clearly seen some stuff with her whole time traveller theme.

Noses and mouths are generally simple vector line work, and the nose rarely changes shape or position during animations. So its a good reference point for your eyes and mouth positions. You'll also find that the eyes and mouths are frequently recycled in different combinations during some animations. If you look at vanilla character's faces. So that can greatly reduce workload once you figure out the pattern.
