Would Wigfrid retain her advantages if she stopped acting?

Recommended Posts

To be more specific, her description in game is "absorbs the power of fallen foes", and monsters she kill has soul thingy pop out, and I think the in-game-files name for the soul is a valhalla soul. That's what my memory is telling me when i was toying around with wigfrid's game files.

Ok, after considering everything, I'm gonna conclude that Wigfrid would retain her advantages if she stopped acting.

Her increased damage is just her being a better combatant than rest of the survivors. Skill not strength. And being a viking has nothing to do with that.

Her decreased incoming damage is just her being better at blocking/taking a hit. Wolfgang is strong but not skilled so he hits harder than her but doesn't mitigate incoming damage. And her being a viking has nothing to do with that.

Her ability to craft better weapons and armor is just her being better at crafting weapons and armor. Her recipes don't include nightmare fuel or other magical shenanigans so no reason why she couldn't craft these even after she stops acting. The fact that other survivors can use these items is further proof unlike the alarming clock. And she had both the battlespear and the valkyrie helm in the real world outside the constant. So they are 100% mundane.

Absorbing the power of her fallen foes is not related to being a viking or a valkyrie. Literally. Read viking and valkyrie lore. Absolutely nothing about it has anything to do with vampirism or absorbing life force or absorbing souls or anything like that.

Her inspiration stuff is literally called "stagecraft" not "viking craft". Even if she stops acting she is still an actor. No reason why it would go away. She may have to act like a viking in battle to use them but not outside.

So in conclusion, Wigfrid is a soul vampire actor that is pretending to play viking. And if she stops playing viking, she's still a soul vampire. She probably has to act like a viking in battle to gain her stagecraft stuff but that's probably it. Wigfrid is a soul vampire that creates magic with stagecraft.

I feel very stupid constantly saying soul vampire. What is the reasoning for giving Wigfrid soul vampirism anyhow?

Her vampirism is a gameplay mechanic that encourages players to participate in combat. Fighting can be very risky — it's very easy to end up injured and with low sanity, so being able to maintain these stats without worry allows players to pick a more aggressive play style that suits Wigfrid's role.

Her vampirism also aids her carnivorous diet — hunting for her is far less dangerous than for any other character.

In conclusion, her vampirism is not directly related to her acting role, but rather guides players to choose a more combative approach.

Do valkyries eat only meat? I skimmed the wiki (it's a really long read...) but I couldn't find anything regarding eating meat only XD

Is she acting a specific character in norse mythology that eats only meat? I've never heard of warriors, shield maidens, or valkyries eating only meat. I mean, I did hear people say "men eat red meat" and "vegetarians are *******". Is that what her carnivorous appetite is based on? But she's not a man, and I never heard someone say "warriors eat red meat".

I do think that her diet is influenced by false ideas of masculinity. Vikings in particular had a very fragile sense of masculinity and would do anything not to be perceived as effeminate.

The diets of Valkyries and shieldmaidens are never brought up, but there is a sole mention of what the warriors of Valhalla ate — every night, a single boar named Saehrímnir would be slaughtered to feed the whole hall. One could speculate that the warriors of Valhalla only ever ate meat, since no other food sources are mentioned.

Edit: I forgot to mention that women were allowed to be masculine in the Viking age, and they were even celebrated for doing so. This is apparent by the many tales of women who decide to become warriors.

Yes that is the gameplay purpose of her vampirism trait, (and it’s fun..) but what is the LORE Purpose?

Put it this way: Willows short showed a Orphaned Willow who’s mean caretakers we’re driving her insane (thus allowing Shadow Monsters to spawn after her) When Willow was locked in a closet with no where to go and trapped with the creatures her Sanity Tanks, and Bernie enlarges to protect her- then we see an immune to fire Willow walking out of a burning orphanage holding Bernie with the shadow monster no longer chasing her.

Webbers animated short shows us Webber before he became infused with a Spider, it shows Wagstaff show up delivering a device with a captive Constant Spider inside, Webber gets eaten by it and Thus becomes a boy inside a Spider.

Wigfrid.. we got a back story that she was excellent at stage performance roles, portraying a mighty Viking ends up being her grand performance, but it’s a role she can’t switch “Off” and when her performances weren’t asking for “Viking” she could only perform the role of Viking. Thus her stage performances started to suck- and she struck some deal with Maxwell to be important again.

But what we didn’t get any details about- is how this chick can smack something and lifeleech it’s health to heal her own.

I was really hoping Klei would’ve covered that by either explaining Maxwells Shadowy hand touching hers infused her body with Bat-Bat Powers, The Power of The Unicorn, Her Shield & Spear/Family bloodline being of actual Viking heritage- Etc..

Unfortunately I don't have a clear idea either, though her perk is listed as "absorbing the power of her fallen foes". Maybe the spirits that she guides to Valhalla lend her a bit of their strength as a thanks. After all, being chosen by a Valkyrie is a very honourable thing.

Maybe it's some kind of a blessing that the gods give to mortals who they deem worthy. Valkyries are not goddesses, but rather mortal women who have decided to pledge an oath to Odin.

I don't think that's what happened. In real life we see actors who try to go outside of their "field" only to fail. Like a comedy actor trying to turn serious only to fail or something like that. Bryan Cranston is the only success story I've heard of.

So I think that's what's happening to her. She's a great valkyrie actor, but either a subpar actor for other roles OR she got unlucky and her director/screen writer is just incompetent and she's currently going down with them

.Don't think this is it. Mindless robots and plants (snaptooth) don't seem like the type to go for that. So her absorbing them I think is nonconsensual.

Maybe it's a commission fee. Like Odin letting Wigfrid grab 10% of the soul in exchange for delivering 90% of the soul to valhalla or something. But that would require an Odin to exist in the world and to have chosen Wigfrid as his champion and actively gifting her. So I think this fails too. Then again, maybe she is the chosen of an unnamed shadow overlord who rewards her for good acting. But then again the soul that leaves doesn't look sinister, evil, or in pain at all.

---------------

Maybe the answer lies with wortox. He extracts souls. He heals from them. Maybe there's a relationship with Wigfrid's soul thingy here?

I'm not on top of my wortox lore because he doesn't interest me. Any Wortox experts here?

We don't really have a reason on why Bernie turns giant or why Willow is immune to fire either so I don't see your point, unless I missed some piece of lore.

I'm going to assume you're a new face around here, so I'll just tell you that this thread is super old and didn't need to be brought back (or necro'ed, as the rest of us would say).

My bad, I just look around on threads that appear on my feed.
