Atmo suits distribution

Recommended Posts

In my bases I tend to have one living module with atmo checkpoint right next to entrance/exit (liquid lock/tubes) and source of fiber and suit workshop in that living module. Atmo suits work flawlessly that way. Until you

  1. add another checkpoint somewhere else (rocket module or reactor entrance where dupes switch to radiation suits) suits start to get worn out at these places and poor dupes become stuck until their comrades find time to take worn suit to workshop.
  2. want to take extra suits inside rocket module for your crew working at another planetoid.

Because of this I tried to place storage box in these places/situations, however I am unable to find right settings for these storages.

My question is how do you cope with situations like these?

For worn suits I just make sure there's high priority on restoring them and returning them to the docks, and of course having 1 or 2 extra docks over what I think I need to account for worn suits.

When going to other planets, the best thing I've found to do is just to have extra atmo suit docks so dupes can take a fully charged (with oxygen) suit. I always like suits to be full of oxygen so even if I want to deliver some suits somewhere, I'd rather pop them out of the docks than taking some empty suits from storage: basically the best place to store extra suits is in docks.

So really my solution is just more docks and suits.

That would work when space is not the issue, however inside rocket I already have 3 docks for 3 dupes, so another dock is not the option in this case.

Most of the time I'm delivering suits to the docks some time before launch, then drop them right before launch, so crew can enter and has some spares. In one case I have a high priority compactor to store suits inside the rocket so 'locked' dupe can deliver a suit.

Having 3 docks for 3 dupes causes a lot of delays. Dupe enters to idle for a moment or to pick something up and then has to wait for a while for suit to recharge. It is possible to have 4 docks, but personally I opted to have 2 dupes per rocket with 3 beds and 3 docks, instead I send multiple rockets. This way I have some wiggle ground for switching crew (if one of the rockets needs to leave, it doesn't need to take whole crew with it), less delays on suit recharge and less delays with suit replacements

P.S. Would love to have some 'advanced' starfarer variant that is slightly smaller externally and internally than current one, but has either built into door suit station or requires external transport tube to leave and enter, but sadly transport tube will just melt on launch

I normally just have dupes wear their suits in the rocket. Though it's a bit exploity because there's not much downsides to perma-suit, besides when they start catching breath it lowers their productivity in exchange for not consuming oxygen.
