The yellow doesn't contrast with the icon's white background in the research tree; and its progress bar blends in with currently selected research projects, which are also yellow. It was easier to see when it was green (when Spaced Out! first entered beta). It was previously green bar for material (or r/a) and yellow for space/orbital points. Now - orange and yellow that are too close color spectrums for some people.
