Should the default priority be "2" instead of "5"?

I say "2" instead of "1" because there are certain things you just never want Dupes doing unless there is literally nothing better to do (e.g. using a Manual Generator connected to nothing but a lightbulb in a gym).  By making the default priority for things "2" you can have a lot more control over what order things get done in because you can queue up a series of things and just let them go.

This would be great if you have complex construction projects where things need to be done in a specific order.  It's possible to do this manually, but you need to pay very close attention when setting it up and look at everything in your base.

Alternatively, maybe there could be a setting so users can define what the "default" priority is in the game options menu?  That way we can decide based on individual needs without having to change the default game?

I`d love a button that reduces all priorities by 1 globally. It would fix a lot of stuff.

Personally i usually have enough priorities between 5 and 9 for all my systems but i never used priorities 2 and 3. 4 is sometimes useful when i want something done after everything else is finished and 1 for stuff i don`t want touched.

Why would you want anything but 5?
That allows you 4 steps lower and 4 steps higher.

That gives you 4 levels of doing it later and 4 levels of doing it sooner.
Needing more than 4 is crazy levels of micromanagement.

I anything I'd want the range increased so that it could override dupe priority too. Could simply be a +15 and -5 option.

Dupe is 50, item is +5 = 55.

Another dupe is 40, +15 = 55 -> overriding their arrow settings.

When i started playing i only ever used priorities when something wasn't getting done. So only the higher priorities ever got used, and i quickly ran out of "this is more important" levels.

These days i use all of them, but i can see why someone might want the default to be 1 or 2.

Yeah i really wish this was possible. Like a priority 9 toilet emptying job would actually get done, for example, in stead of all the dupes ignoring it because their primary job type is always preferred even when that task has priority 1.

I also wish proximity would work like this, with closer, low priority jobs able to outweigh higher priority jobs on the other end of the asteroid, within limit.

if you do not mess with dupes priorities and keep them at default (middle), then 5 for all tasks is great as a starting point.

Effectively everything is done as long as you have enough dupes for the amount of work.

If you want to speed up some projects you assigned higher task number (4 levels are more than enough). if you do not want idle dupes, you add some unimportant tasks to do if nothing left (excess dupes than the amount of work - automated bases). I use all numbers 1-10.

You do not want to create individual queries for dupes - micromanagement will kill you especially in Space Out.

There are many options in the task priority bar in the right bottom corner someone may not use it but you can change all priorities at once massively or change priorities only for building or other tasks.

Dupes priorities override task priorities and it is a great tool when you know what you are doing. If you have specialists for each job, you reassigned dupe priorities and get jobs done faster; even though they may travel a bit longer. So the digger will only dig if there is anything to dig, otherwise he will help with other tasks, scientist will research, etc.

I guess the current system is almost ideal how it is. Yes, the dupes sometimes go across all the map to do a small task, and the nearby one will ignore the task. But this is very different topic.

let's put it this way, when you are at the beginning you want to have all priorities to be high and jobs to be done as fast as possible. So you have a line of 5 to 9 tasks.

When at a later stage when everything important is automated, you want dupes to be busy with small, not vital tasks and low priorities start playing their role so you go for 1-4 leaving 5 for some vital tasks you cannot fully automate like cooking.
