How do you play in a private server through a low-end PC?

Recommended Posts

Hello Starvers!

I play DST in a low-end laptop, it runs well on dedicated public servers and runs well in a friend's hosted server, but sadly the game is just unplayable when I try to host (solo) a private server from the same computer I play with. I don't have another PC to use as a local server (I did, and had the chance to make a dedicated server in it, but it doesn't work anymore), buying a laptop isn't currently possible and I don't have a credit card to rent a remote server and run a dedicated server, so I am limited to play in public servers and even if I enjoy it I can't make it beyond spring because I just get exhausted after hours of playing, leave and as usual these public servers are restarted, so I'm missing a lot of that juicy DST content.

I saw a video made by RazingHel and learned I can pay 5$/month on Linode through Paypal to run a dedicated server but they require credit card information which I don't know if it's mandatory, so I'm still looking.

I'll leave my laptop specs here just in case:

  • CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N3060 @ 1.60GHz 1.60 GHz
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: Intel(R) HD Graphics

TL, DR: How do you play in a private server if you don't have the resources? I'm asking because maybe there's a solution I'm missing.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

In what way is the game unplayable? Is it lagging? Have you tried playing offline? Changed any settings, like the lag compensation?

Hello, yes, it's the lag and I play with lag compensation on and sometimes I can move and sometimes I can't, even in early game, but no, I haven't tried playing offline, could give it a shot.

Not the solution you're looking for but, you can try public Endless server instead of Survival.

It sounds like a good idea, I'll try this one first. I guess the server would reset at any moment anyway but there are more chances of login off and coming back to it, better than Survival. Thanks!

I can understand your pain as i have kind of same specs but my cpu is

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz   2.40 GHz

So, I can feel how a laggy game feels like :wilson_ecstatic:.

My best suggestion will be try to add some more ram as after adding 8gb extra ram on my extra ram slot the game is now quite playable. Yes the cpu still stays near 100% but if you cool down your system somehow it's a relief from lag. Now my game runs very smooth.
