darknotezero
So here's my first attempt at creating a rocket interior mini colony. It's not optimized in the slightest because I changed my mind about a few things mid-build and since this wasn't done in sandbox i didn't want to take the time to redesign every little thing. This was more proof of concept. A few notes: Design Choices: The coal generator is just there as a backup, automation set to 0 to 15% battery charge when it's night time. It's disabled here for no real reason, since i just launched this rocket for the first time I didn't enable it before i took the screenshot. The bottom is a CO2 collector/dispeller. When sensor detects CO2 for 10s, it closes the top set of doors and then opens the bottom set of doors to vent the CO2 out into vacuum. When CO2 is vented, it resets. I need to fine tune this set up a little bit to make it work better. The use of floor doors elsewhere comes from the fact that i can't use airflow/mesh tiles in areas outside of the original module interior to deal with gas exchange since I can't simultaneously drywall and airflow. I did this just to get excess CO2 from dupes to flow to the CO2 dispeller setup. Discoveries: If you deconstruct the tile underneath the space door, it 'breaks' the space door and you can't get out. I didn't try to deconstruct the other tiles around the space door in case the same thing happened, which messed with some of my original blueprint intentions. I clearly don't have an understanding of what kind of LOS the new telescopes need. It makes no sense to me that the left telescope can operate but the middle and right one can't. Future changes: O2 production. I either want to centralize the ATs into a single space or consider an alternate means. One thought I had was to go an oxylite route by submerging the oxylite in my water basin and then setting up a conveyor loop around the base, only picking up a new piece of oxylite when the pressure gets too low. Dimensions. I think I could build the CO2 floor one tiler lower, and if that's the case, I want to create a new 2 tile high space beneath the original interior and maybe shift the basins/lavatory systems to above the original interior since that needs more height. I definitely blundered my way through this design, so comments/criticisms are very welcome. KittenIsAGeek
I have a logistics question not really related to your awesome post... .... WHY is there a consistent night phase on the solar panels of a rocket traveling in space? *scratches head* #I'mConfused Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/125619-rocket-interior-mini-colony-ver-0/#findComment-1412361 Share on other sites
ghkbrew
To be clear this isn't a self sufficient colony right? You're shipping in food, algae and water? Any plans for cooling? 2 hours ago, darknotezero said: The use of floor doors elsewhere comes from the fact that i can't use airflow/mesh tiles in areas outside of the original module interior to deal with gas exchange since I can't simultaneously drywall and airflow. Even though they look like they should. You're shipping in food, algae and water? Any plans for cooling? no, not self-sufficient. a true self-sufficient colony is a bit beyond my skill in the game, although trying to puzzle that out with this rocket interior might be a good way to discipline myself to figure that out. As far as cooling, i saw that one post where someone threw in an aquatuner loop to get it so frigid that it would solidify the CO2 to address the problem of CO2 culmination. I imagine I could devote some of my infrastructure to do something similar but not to that level of extreme, build a tiny ice box and flow in a hydrogen loop or something, but i'd probably have to redo the whole rubik's cube to find a good way to compact that. 25 minutes ago, ghkbrew said: You can just build airflow or mesh tiles, they don't leak their contents to space.
