Beefalo Plough

Recommended Posts

Consider the following:

A craftable plow attachment to your domesticated (or in the process of being domesticated) beefalo that when attached slows the beefalo down but when you walk over your farm tiles it automatically creates a 3x3 grid of plantable farm soil.

I imagine it would be really great for massive farm plots and it just fits thematically incredibly well.

The attachment could basically be another type of saddle so they wouldn't even have to mess up with the beefalo interface or whatever and would give more uses for the saddlehorn.

Optional:

More complicated saddle into which you can also put seeds and it would automatically plant them when plowing as well making farming fully automated at the cost of not being able to choose where plants go, unless you make it a 3x3 grid interface where you can set up in which positions the seeds will get planted.

Overall I think there are many options on how this could be balanced to make it easier/harder such as needing a fully domesticated beefalo, beefalo losing domestication when used for plowing or increased hunger consumption or obedience lowering. Perhaps a whole new type of beefalo domestication type could be created which could move faster with the plow or do 4x4 grids or no domestication/obedience/extra hunger loss etc. The sky is the limit.

Optional optional:

Perhaps this could also open the door for beefalo sleighs in which you can carry your friends on those cold wintry nights..?

Personally I don't think there's need for a such weird and complicated way of creating farm soil, since it is already incredibly easy to create some, even when you're going big. About carrying your friends in a Beefalo, I'd say not a sleigh, but a saddle for 2 characters or something like that, since maintaining a beefalo is rather troublesome, even more if everyone has to take care for their beefalo. Carrying many friends would be too much.

I am not sure if we mean the same thing. Farm turf is indeed very easy to make with the rigamajig but having a big amount of turfs and having to hoe a 3x3 in each of them is very tedious and thats what the beefalo plough would be used for. Not making the turf but rather just the thing where you actually plant the seeds. Instead of having to click 3x3 on lets say 10 farm turfs you just run over them with your beefalo plough and you have 3x3 farm tiles on 10 turfs.

Okay, now we understand each other. I see what you mean, but since you can plant seeds at different times, or the Forget-Me-Lots that stay there, I believe It'd be rather difficult to make use of the plough thing, you'd have to wait for every crop to finish and collect to use the plough again, and to go around with such a big creature which is even wearing a plough... it sounds too troublesome.

Even without the beefalo part, it sounds a little too "advanced", in a world where we are just survivors that fight with spears and hams, that mine with pickaxes... it doesn't fit the world/situation in my opinion.

Working the field isn't much of a problem compared to talking to plants & stuff, but not having a grid, which there's already a mod that gives you that.

Lol there are robots walking around and we have an automatic fire detection and dousing systems, lightning rods and all sorts of other sciency stuff. People were using animals to plough their fields for quite a damn long time and in fact we still do it in some parts of the world. When you domesticate it, you can make it work for you. So I don't think you are right about saying it doesn't fit the world and situation at all.

You can talk to all your plants just by holding spacebar while to use the hoe you have to click on some pretty specific places and you have to do it all manually. Not to mention you can talk to plants with various aoe single click methods while this ALWAYS has to be done manually one by one. if you want a truly giant field then some form of aoe tiling is a must imo.
