Charging Smart and Jumbo batteries together

Recommended Posts

This has bothered me for quite awhile just never sat down to work it out.

By the way this is by far the best game I have ever played never had a Game hook me so hard.

But back to topic you know when charging Smart and Jumbo batteries together the jumbos only charge to half full annoying as hell, so have come up with a solution but there maybe someone else who has found this before me, but I can't find any circuit like this one.

So using Sandbox mode put this together, layed it out this way for clarity, showing Automation connections and arrangement for the smart batteries.

Some of the online circuits are way to complex or so crowded together as to be useless.

Main points are Smart Batteries to be in parallel and Jumbos in series Power cutoffs to isolate the second Smart Battery an XOR gate and 2 NOT gates.

This can be scaled up with more Jumbos to suit your needs.

Tested in sandbox mode works fine.

Short explanation as to how it works, Start all empty Smart 1 and Jumbos charge, Jumbos to half full, Logic changes at XOR output shutoff close, Smart 2 charges and Jumbos charge full, Logic changes again at XOR output, shutoffs open isolate Smart 2 disabling Generator, Smart 1  and Jumbos discharge Jumbos to half, Logic changed again at XOR output, cutoffs close Smart 2 discharges and the jumbos empty, Smart 2 enables Generator and we start again.

If you don't want to "waste power" in the lower battery by charging it twice, add another pair of shutoffs with a NOT to the XOR and set both to 98-2.
I like, that you can use this as a control unit in front of a huge battery cluster. Personally i never use jumbos though; i barely feel the need for having a huge amount of kJ's and the s-bat has only 1/5 leakage. It is also a bit more complicated to connect different types of generators with different threshold numbers to balance them out.
