ConvexCaribou23 Posted May 29, 2020 Share Posted May 29, 2020 The Crab King's concept is a great one, the kind of “make your own boss” type of thing, but the application was, in my opinion, not well done. I suggest you watch Freddo Film’s latest video on the subject, he discusses well the flaws of the fight. In short, The Crab King’s gem powers are unbalanced, meaning everyone only uses purple gems, the only way to even find it, is to explore THE ENTIRE OCEAN, which takes for ever, and if you do one single mistake in the fight, it’s game over, since he can permanently stunt-lock you by freezing you. Here are my suggestions to deal with these problems: 1. Rebalance the gems by making them have more equal effects (except for the iridescent gem). 2. Make the gems not only buff him, but also give him different downsides/vulnerabilities (Ex: blue gem could make him vulnerable to fire, red ones could make it so he can’t permanently freeze you until your boat sinks or make him more vulnerable to freezing, purple gems could make glass cutters more effective on him or that glass cutters would lose less durability, like with shadows, etc.) 3. Make Pearl give you a map to indicate where the Crab King is when she gives you her pearl to make it doable to find him in a reasonable amount of time, especially if Klei intend to lock progress behind the Crab King, with the celestial tribute. 4. Give the Crab King a Physical attack (not AOE) that would unfreeze you so that you are not permanently frozen, like Deerclops and Klaus. This would also fix the bee cheese, and convert that to a technique instead of cheese. Please, feel free to discuss your thoughts and ideas down in the replies. I like this concept like “customize your own boss" As you mentioned later,people will always find the easiest way to kill all boss for their loots. My opinion is how about link the gem you provided with the loots you would get by adding a Sunken Chest? A harder boss should give more treasures as reward. But yes, they should balance the buffs from the gems. Looking for him is ok. You need time to find klaus loot stash too. Pearl doesnt know where he is so you neither. Take the time that you are using for looking for him to explore and fish. And we are forgeting that in the future there will be more stuff to do in the ocean so, for the moment i dont see it as s mistake or something to change Also i think he should atack the player so he isnt all the time spaming his spells (spaming should be a stat from the gems not base boss and we can include how often he directly atacks the player too) More hit window between rowing/freezing him so we will have more kind of tactics to fight him and also will make it a little more dangerous for a team of players. Gems should work as they work but with some balance chsnges to the numbers and maybe adding other kind of atacks for some gems. I didnt try it with people but seems like dragonfly: hard for solo a joke for a team. Well, the loot stash can only spawn in 2 biomes, the deciduous forest and the mosaique biome, which is at least a form of instruction, but the crab king, he can spawn literally anywhere he wants, as long as he's in water, and considering how slow sailing is, I would never have the patience to go find him, and if they lock content behind this boss and that you still need to map out the entire ocean to find him, I will never get to see the new content legit.
