Moon Theory

Recommended Posts

I have some more theory noodles to throw at the wall. The Lunar Island appears to mirror aspects of the mainland. Just for instance:

  • The mainland has sanity: a lot of sanity is good, not enough is bad and makes horrible shadowy creatures hurt you. Things that make you feel good ups sanity (wearing fancy clothes, picking flowers), bad stuff makes it go down (eating raw food, being around monsters).
  • The lunar island has lunacy/enlightenment: too much lunacy is bad and makes strange bright creatures put you to sleep, but a lot of enlightenment is good. Things that make you feel good ups lunacy, and bad stuff makes you more enlightened.

Rather interesting dichotomy set up here. I was wondering why, and thought about the chess analogy. What if there are "black pieces" and "white pieces"? We know Charlie is currently ruling on the Nightmare Throne as Queen. What if there's a "Brightmare" Throne, and there's another ruler we don't know about? What if it's Them? And is that why she's attacking the moon?

Eh, I dunno really, since it feels like They are on a higher echelon of evil. Like, it seems They are the Biggest Bad and have a lot of magical influence on the world. But I wanted to bring it up anyway. It feels kinda weird to have a chess analogy without an opposing army, tbh.

There are some interesting philosophical article about insanity vs enlightment on the web:o .

Since the Metheus puzzle and the random world gen sentences (it's like "imbeding a monarch's sorrow", I cannot exactly remember) I speculate that the staff guy (he wasn't dead) is in exile (the moon) and plans to retake the Constant or try to destroy Them. Look for Maxwell's quotes about the moon items and he refers the moon in quotationmarks ("moon") as he know it's not really a moon. Maybe it's a moonbase:D. Jokes aside. Staff guy found a way to counter insanity with enlightment.

The chess analogy was present since DS. Since Charlie is the Queen I wonder if she plays the King piece, too, I try to form a theory... The survivors were almost fighting alone. If you ask me Charlie is still using the survivors for her plans (see events) and is led by her emotions because Maxwell draw her in the whole situation and didn't even spoke with her in their final act.

Of course the tellings in the Metheus puzzle and the accident in the final act are almost the same. While I believe there is a hive mind in Them's society (see the eye in the mural) I think they need a vessel to attack sane people. So the torch royality and Charlie got absorbed by Them. However Charlie was able to fuse her monster form and human form together and you know the rest. There is still no motive given but if you ask me it's just a battle for the Nightmare throne. It may be the link to Their homeworld and they are afraid somebody else would infiltrate Them.
