Glitchless survival regolith melter

Recommended Posts

Goal was to create a simple to build, space element free, geyser-less way to convert regolith to igneous rock. It works by using molten glass as a coolant for a refinery making iron. It does require repairing the radiant pipes while its warming up, but other than that takes about 1 iron production per cycle to produce around 6 tons of igneous rock.

Yeah, weird, looks like my aspect ratio is causing problems? They're steam screenshots here, if that helps, plus a few showing a sandbox prototype and some build progress: https://steamcommunity.com/id/mightyhorse/screenshots/

The big backwards shaped C cooling loop and the bottom shipping path were added on much later in the operation of the melter, and I did a bunch of rerouting when I realized how buggy heat transfer seems to be between tiles and shipping rails.

regolith is really massive and annoying, and igneous rock is always in shortage It`s pretty cool to convert regolith into igneous rock.

You can also use this design to dump excess regolith into the vacuum of space. If you want to do that, I'd modify this to double the magmification stage, so you have one going regolith->magma->igneous rock then feed that igneous rock to one that converts it back to magma while exposed to space. You want the first stage there since a large part of the efficiency of this design is that the incoming regolith is heated by the outgoing igneous
