When I first installed the game I decided to join Klei's Official server to get the feel of the online play(and it's delightfully smooth)
It was winter and I picked Maxwell for reasons..
So, I found a torch on the ground and picked it. It went directly to my hand slot as usual, but when I tried to remove it, it just didn't work
I though it was a misconfiguration of my controller, but the menu said it was all normal
Additional notes:
When I pressed Left on D-pad, I did the 'Light' command, even though it was written 'Equip', I don't know it this is intentional, but having two buttons to make the same thing feels wrong

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
