Multiple hatches selected for grooming, none being groomed. Rancher stuck in grooming call animation

In a hatch ranch my rancher is stuck in the "grooming call" animation. There are three hatches that seem to be called at once - three hatches with an "Excited" status. They are all next to the grooming station, but none of them actually go up on the station to be groomed.

I have tried wrangling the critters to "unfreeze" things, but it goes right back into the same situation: rancher stuck in a critter call, with no critters going up on the table.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Build a ranch, populate with hatches.

2. Have a rancher tend to them.

3. ??? (As far as I can tell there is nothing that differentiates the ranch where the bug happened from any of the other ranches I have built over the years. So not sure what exact additional steps might be needed. I have other ranches on the same map where this issue doesn't occur.)

EDIT/additional info: Reloading the game fixed the problem.

EDIT 2: I just read the new release notes, about critters getting in line for their grooming. That bit of code seems like a reasonable place to do some bug hunting. Something causing critters in line to not actually get up on the grooming station.

User Feedback

I am also having a problem ranching in the new spaced out build. Not exactly the same bug though on mine the station says no critters are eligible, there is a shine bug in the room. and f11 (room overlay) properly shows the room.

I'm having a very similar problem after the latest update with my pips - they are all clustered around the grooming station, but none of them are getting groomed, and my dupe is stuck calling them.  Also, they are all showing as glum.

However, one pip is showing as 'Being Groomed' - however, it's not on the grooming table, just next to it, and the dupe isn't grooming it.

I've attached my save - the camera is showing the affected ranch.

After reloading the game, the problem resolved.

Hey, thanks for the report! Would you mind attaching your save file?

Hiya!

Thanks for the reply. (Sorry - was too busy playing ONI to read the forums... ;-))

Omaristalis beat me to it :-) - they have a save attached in this thread, with the same issue I reported.

I think this problem is a result of having a different duplicant kill a critter while a rancher is trying to attract it to groom it.

I run into that bug today. After playing ~20 cycles, I noticed my ranchers were repeated called hatches but no grooming was happening. It seems like a hatch stays in a "being groomed" state without any grooming happening. Wrangling that hatch makes the hatch queue move again.

I can confirm this issue still exists in latest build 537329. Found frozen Pokeshell stuck in "being groomed" state with rancher continuously calling. Pokeshell continued to be stuck even after rancher left for downtime. Frozen Pokeshell can be unstuck by wrangling it and sending it to another room, but rancher still makes continued failed attempts to call in old ranch. Issue completely resolves upon reload.

I get this bug constantly on my current save. I have multiple different kinds of stables with little in common and I often have to reload my save because a critter will get bugged into the "being groomed" state while the rancher continues to whistle. They can be interrupted as usual (by a schedule change, needing to catch their breath, etc.) but the critter will remain in the bugged state, other critters will be excited in line, and the rancher will just whistle for another critter. The worst part is that I will only notice until I find out that a rancher has spent most of their day whistling without actually doing anything.

I've noticed multiple issues opened for this including this:

And they all match what I'm experiencing.

Exact same issue.

So several times ive noticed that critters aren't being tended too. So I followed my ranchers around to see they're stuck on either grooming or sheering. Hatches are looking glum, doing their animation, and the Rancher is whistling to it but its not coming. Im assuming at some point the Rancher has started whistling to a hatch and then before the hatch has arrived T-break time has happened and the hatch has got stuck. Only way to get past it is to wrangle the hatches in the pen, and then release them again.

Similar thing happens with dreckos. They will be waiting to be sheered, looking all excited, but nothing is happening. The Rancher is whistling to them, but they just stand next to the sheering station with their excited animation playing. Again I assume that at some point theyve called one over, and then headed off to break before the Drecko arrived.

I have this still on my latest save.  One thing I noticed was that when I reloaded to clear the issue, my dupe went to groom and the first critter they groomed had a tiny groom animation, as though it had previously been mostly groomed but interrupted?  Thought I'd mention it here as it may be relevant.
