Asteroid Spawning in Sandbox

JaxckLl
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Windows Pending

Variety of odd spawning bugs related to the new asteroids when playing Sandbox & using the reveal tool, refer to picture.

1) No Geysers or Volcanoes

2) Water being supported by gas

3) Straight lines between biomes

4) Holes in the space shield (not in picture, happened on second asteroid with Oxylite & space background overlapping)

Steps to Reproduce

Build Telescope in Sandbox, use it, then use Reveal function to show entire map. Bugs relate to spawning.

1) No Geysers or Volcanoes

I spawned a dupe and they showed up. I think this is normal as other things are known not to spawn with out using reveal or sight of a dupe.

Water being supported by gas

Hmmm mine seemed normal, I know under very high pressures liquids can float and teleport around. But all the gases and fluids in there are "normal".

Straight lines between biomes

Now that, that is some funky world gen!!

I've generated a few more, I don't think they are meant to be square.

This "may" have been fixed with patch but minor holes into space biome are usually not a big problem, unless its venting the whole biome area.

Interesting. Yes I used the Reveal function because I wanted to see what the farther out asteroids looked like. So yes, the issue is limited to Sandbox.

This world was generated with that most recent patch. The issue with the crust on the second asteroid is how thin it is, and the fact that Oxylite can thus spawn on top of space. This causes the Oxylite to evaporate into space (though this behaviour is weird. There still needs to be an empty tile next to the Oxylite to let it drain at all), potentially cracking holes through the crust or into the background. Thickening the crust or extending the asteroid background higher would solve the problem (thought Oxylite might just need some additional work, or be limited in how it can spawn on the new asteroids).

The square generation is very odd, just a small error.
