The U58 beta Linux native version crashes immediately on older hardware.

  • Branch: Preview Branch Version: Linux Pending

It just won't start. It doesn't even create a Player.log file.

The system log contains the following message:

Quote

[  771.978893] traps: OxygenNotInclud[11616] trap invalid opcode ip:75109775ac52 sp:7ffe7648cae8 error:0 in UnityPlayer.so[3959c52,751094dbd000+29d3000]

It looks like you compiled some game components like UnityPlayer.so using a newer x86 instructions set that my hardware can't.

PS: The Windows version runs fine on the same hardware.

Steps to Reproduce

just run The U58 beta Linux native version on older hardware.

User Feedback

Which version of Windows did you try? Was it in a virtual machine or native?

We are having trouble finding hardware to test this issue as your CPU is almost 17 years old. The laptop we have from 2008 (one year older) only has 2 GB of memory and we are unable to install the latest Ubuntu.

I've sent you a private message with a files to collect some additional information.

Thanks for testing those files I sent you. I was able to reproduce the issue on my old Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2008) with a blank Unity project. We filed a bug with Unity but it may take some time to get a response and it's not clear if/when it will be fixed.

I'm impressed these would-be-museum-pieces are still being used with current OS/games. I fired up my old laptop with a T9300 and didn't get past the installer thumbdrive's boot menu :D
