Every LOAD adds ~200MB of RAM until ONI crashes

Scrazzy
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Linux Pending

I found via system task explorer, that ONI starts at around 3.1 GB RAM and after every ingame LOAD, it adds another ~200 MB of RAM. After few loads game consumes nearly all system memory (depends on hw configuration) and crashes.

You should really look at memory optimalization of game, because clearly memory is used by every load but not freed or reused from previous loads.

Steps to Reproduce
1. Open system memory explorer 2. Start ONI 3. Load any game 4. Look at system memory value 5. Load game again 6. Look at system memory - value will be ~200 MB higher 7. Repeat steps 5-6 to crash ONI/PC

User Feedback

Gratulations, you´ve found out something, long term players, and the devs btw. knew for almost 2 or 3 years now. Yes ONI has some kind of memoryleak when it comes to loading games. The devs suggested to close the game and start it again, until they will find the culprint (what seems to be easier said than done). There´s anohter advantage to this. Loading a game does take twice as long as closing and restarting oni and loading the game then.

Yup, my loads take ~5 minutes from menu, 10 minutes if I load from within a game. I just alt+f4 now and start all over.

I am very very sorry you had to spent time writing and creating such ironical answer. There were no matches in search, thus I created this thread. Person with healthy mind would just link post concerning same problem and mark this as duplicity.

I dont know, what you searched for. But if i search for just RAM, the result will get me:

https://forums.kleientertainment.com/klei-bug-tracker/oni/memory-leak-after-few-times-of-load-in-game-r16101/

https://forums.kleientertainment.com/klei-bug-tracker/oni/ram-eating-r20496/

among some others.

I dont blame you for not finding them. The search feature is not the best.

Holy crap, they have known this for years and not fixed it?  For that matter, why the hell does it take twice as long to re-load a save in game compared to loading from the main menu?  Come on guys, fire up valgrind and find your leaks!
