Crash when pressing ESC

When in game I press esc to try and exit and the game locks up.

It seems to sort itself out given a few minutes but i cant do anythin unless i ctrl alt del.

Im a win 10 user if that effects things!

Steps to Reproduce
Be in game and press ESC
Go to bugs

That's the game closing your session.
The bigger your base, and the more going on, the longer it will take.
That's normal for any game, but it takes longer for less developed games.

What happens with me is the first time I use ESC to bring up the menu it takes a few seconds to appear. After that the menu pops up very quick.
