Clean energy achievement prohibits wood, but description mentions gas

Coolthulhu
  • Branch: Preview Branch Version: Windows Fixed

Wood burner is internally referred to as "WoodGasGenerator" and the description of Clean Energy achievement seems to refer to it as "gas" by saying "methane or gas".

Using wood burner will fail the achievement.

EDIT: There's also the part where "petrol generator" is referred to just as "petrol", but burning ethanol in it also fails the achievement, as it is the building that is checked, not the fuel.

Steps to Reproduce
Set up hundreds of hamster wheels running forever, wait until achievement procs, load autosave just before achievement, build a wood burner, wait for few cycles to see it not procing in this timeline.

User Feedback

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.

I find it odd that the wood burning generator is referred to as a wood gas generator. Wood gas is the process of turning wood into gas, which can then be used to power a car. It was mainly used during WW2 due to fuel shortage and the engine horsepower would be cut in half. It also had to clean solid toxic impurities from the gas, which would otherwise deposit in the engine and breaking it. Most of the gas would be carbon monoxide. There is a theoretical max of 70% of the burn value, which can turn into gas and in reality it would be even less than that.

Why is the wood burning generator not just a wood fired steam engine? It would be a much simpler machine, way less maintenance and likely more fuel efficient.
