Abyssalite Radiating Heat

Just started a map on Oasisse OASIS-A-765907507-0 and where I have dug out around the hot abyssalite it is radiating heat into the air which I thought was not possible? (possibly me that is mistaken but have attached the seed for you to look at).

Steps to Reproduce

Dig around the abyssalite surrounding the 1500 degree obsidian.

User Feedback

This is not a bug, abyssalite has a thermal conductivity of 0.00001. The thermal conductivity between abyssalite and oxygen is the geometric mean between the abyssalite and oxygen thermal conductivities (not the minimum), and that is multiplied by 25 for gas to solid transfers.

In short, it is expected that hot abyssalite radiate heat.

There are only two ways that happens:

  • If you remove the cooler upper layer and expose hot abyssalite tiles underneath
  • There are a handful of spots where the upper layer hot for some reason. This leads to oil flashing to petroleum or sour gas. Which is how it can be spotted.

However, I don't understand why they don't just make it a perfect insulator.
