Spelunkeys not Emerging from Huts

Not sure if this is a bug but I seem to recall spelunkeys having boosted stats in acid rain. I ran through the monkey biome during the Nightmare phase, acid rain was falling, and no monkeys were coming out. The rift was up, acid rain on, monkey pods would make the shaking animation they do when a monkey comes out but no monke.

Steps to Reproduce

Approach a spelunkey hut during acid rain.

This is intentional. Spelunkeys are  programmed to return to their nests to avoid acid rain.

Then why do they have boosted acid rain stats?

EDIT - oh I see, they get boosted if they’re already outside when nightmare phase starts, then they stay out. It still seems like a weird scenario because they need to come out before acid rain. If shadow monkeys are not averse to acid rain then shouldn’t they be able to emerge during the nightmare phase?

seems like it is there to a) prevent a crash and b) midigate some abuse by players who might try to jam up spelunkey ai into getting caught in acid rain for farming purposes

Is their loot better when they’re affected by acid rain?

Their loot is not affected by acid rain.

Also to clarify something, they're normally weakened when affected by acid rain, but if they're in their nightmare transformation, they will become stronger (and also take more damage).

if a videogame does not know what to do it will error or crash. if the devs do not want acid rain to damage a spelunkey in it's transformed state the same way it does in its normal state then they need to be able to account for situations where acid rain starts and the nm spelunkey is also outside of its home and give the game instructions on how to handle that situation.

I think they could’ve just made shadow spelunkeys immune to acid rain if that were the case. The fact that they get boosted stats seems to indicate that they were meant to be an extra threat during acid rain/NM cycle. Except they’re not because they’re almost always back in their pods

I meant that as in, where do you get the impression it is the way it is to prevent a crash or so? This is very confusing and it doesn't much sense, the situations are accounted for.

Monkeys by default initialize that stuff like this:

inst:AddComponent("acidinfusible")
inst.components.acidinfusible:SetFXLevel(1)
inst.components.acidinfusible:SetMultipliers(TUNING.ACID_INFUSION_MULT.WEAKER)

Then the SetNormalMonkey function does this:

inst.components.acidinfusible:SetMultipliers(TUNING.ACID_INFUSION_MULT.WEAKER)

And SetNightmareMonkey does this:

inst.components.acidinfusible:SetMultipliers(TUNING.ACID_INFUSION_MULT.BERSERKER)

Then the acidinfusible component takes care of enabling the effects when it's acid raining and disabling them otherwise.

It's very much intentional for them to be affected by acid rain differently in each state, as well as having them not exit their pods when its raining and retreating. It could very much start acid raining while they're out and transformed, which makes them not retreat due to acid rain.

The possibilities of players keeping them outside by blocking them or similar, or simply destroying their pods so they have no home to go into, are both also potential scenarios, even if not super common.

The one thing they could potentially change is allowing monkeys to come out while acid raining if the nightmare cycle is active (so they'd immediately transform and will stay outside, and get buffed by the acid rain), but that's up to them deciding if they're supposed to transform while inside.

As in, if that's what's implied, or if they're somehow safe from the nightmare phase until they come out. After all, any monkeys inside their pods will stay inside during the nightmare phase if an earth quake is ongoing (this in itself could also be considered an oversight, a bunch of the monkey mechanics are very old and kinda outdated after all, and could use some love).

they are coded to go into and stay inside of their pods when it is raining. from the way their ai acts during rain they are meant to be inside when it is raining. they are given special code to not quickly perish if they happen to be far away from or prevented from returning to their pods during acid rain.

i think you are trying to make more out of this than there is?

It was more that the way you initially put it was as if you were saying "it is the way it is probably due for crash prevention", which would be a very weird statement. But yeah, didn't mean to make a big deal out of it or anything.

This stuff is working as intended, though they could potentially change/update some of the monkey code.

Yeah I’m willing to admit that this is likely how they were intended to act, but I also agree it would be cool for them to come out during acid rain/NM cycle so that this whole buffing mechanic was more of a common occurrence.
