Love your games, Klei! ONI has become my favorite, and I'm starting to accumulate an unhealthy amount of time playing it.

If there's anything that was tested before (previous updates) or even features suggested that already are in place, my apologies!

  •  Critters

1. Critter BFF: If you pet a critter enough times, he will start following you, making you happier and less prone to stressing. He would follow you around, eat with you (dupe giving a critter food under the mess table <3) and sleep by your cot.  Your Ranching level would affect minimally your ability to befriend a critter, while a Sociability level (idea below) would influence more.

1.1 It would be easier to make friends with a young critter rather than an older one.

1.2 Intimacy levels with your pet would make them produce more materials (less than if groomed at a stable) and even enable you to name them. A critter will limit the dupe's athletics according to its own level. Ex: Dupe has 9 athletics, but pet only has 5, then the dupe would "wait" for the pet to catch up to him.

1.2.1 Some critters would give bonuses if became friends, like increasing carrying capacity, farming skill, etc.

1.2.2 There could be a choice of either letting the critter follow you or not (leaving him to wait by your cot), removing the stress reliever and any bonuses while not limiting your walking speed.

2. Excessive petter (negative trait): This dupe cannot have any critter friends (Cannot be a rancher!)

Pet friendly (positive trait): This dupe will be able to be friends with pets faster (+Ranching as well).

3. Critters born in incubators would have a Domestic trait, which would decrease the chances of having the glum debuff. Wild critters wrangled and brought into stables would have the Born in the Wild trait, increasing the chances of having the glum debuff (they miss the old, glorious days!). Critters wrangled while still babies would get the Domestic trait if tamed by the time they grew up.

  • Social

1. BFF: Reducing stress when talking many times to the same dupe.

2. Talking to a same dupe who has a certain interest might influence the other dupe's interest, maybe even replacing one (if the dupe already has 3 or 4 of them). Example: Dupe A is interested in Building. Dupe B is interested in Cooking and Farming. They talk to each other so much, Dupe A would become interested in Cooking or Farming while Dupe B would want to build. Maybe accumulating interests would be a nice idea? Like a Flex Dupe, while a Closed-Minded one would not be influenced at all.

3. Workaholic (positive trait): Works during break time.

Lazy (negative trait): Starts break time a few seconds before.

4. Party Freak (positive trait): His presence during break time reduces stress of nearby dupes.

Gloomy (negative trait): His presence during break time increases stress of nearby dupes.

5. Sociability level: Depending on the dupe's sociability level, his stress might increase or decrease. For instance, a dupe with high sociability level would be happier (less stressed) if it constantly met other dupes during work time (great for core working jobs, such as researchers, cooks, groundskeepers), as for a dupe with a low sociability would prefer being alone (and get less stressed by that) during his work time (better for peripherals, such as miners, builders). Sociability levels would also influence on the amount of stress decreased when talking to another dupe.

  • Others

1. Swapping shifts: Being able to create schedules for each dupe, leaving some to work during the day and night and sleep during a part of the day.

2. Assigning some dupes to certain areas of the base, so that when they finish their higher priority tasks, they would completely ignore other tasks from their higher priorities if they were on another area and work on its first priority, but lower or their following priorities with higher levels. They could have a "must not leave" area option, followed by "only leaves for top priority" and so on.

3. Making food out of seeds. Toasted seeds or even a Seed Bar (mix of more than 2~3 types of seeds, no need of water, just the musher for compression or something like that).

What do you guys think?

Remember that non flying critters cant climb stairs. Id really like some sort of pet mechanics, tho.

Using seeds for food is something i really hope gets implemented. Only way to get rid of seeds is compost, and unless we micromanage storage to insane levels, dupe time required to compost seeds will be ungodly. Its already ungodly the dupe time required to haul seeds to a location nearby a compost. Lose lose situation, when seeds could be used for tasty snacks...

I recall a suggestion from a long time ago, turn seeds into snack bars that dupes could carry around. That wouldnt make any sense right now, with the new system. But as dupes can still half eat a portion of something and dump the rest on the ground, which is gross, having a lowish caloric seed bar to top off caloric needs would be great.

It could become an exclusive ability of pet critters. They can climb stairs or even climb on top of the dupe while he carries it up.

Seed bars would become a great snack indeed. Or even critter food. Anything to use those ridiculous amounts of seeds created from farming.

Love it :) Climb on top of dupes sound just about perfect. It just sounds cool, a dupe coming back from the wasteland, grabbing his favorite pet from the stable, feeding it and stuff, while chatting with his fellow dupes, then taking it to bed. Then dropping it off at the stable for the day. Wouldnt have to be a daily thing, just occasionally, for the fluff.
