Water Sieve - should be t°in=t°out

Recommended Posts

After nerfing the Fertilizer Synthesizer power plant design, it's time to fix the Water Sieve cooling plant design. Its potential cooling power is almost unlimited. Just one water sieve can eliminate up to 2.4 MW of heat (6 J/g/K * 5000 g * (120-40) K). Too OP, isn't it? It should output water at same temperature as the input water, just like normal filters do. I think this would be fair.

This cooling plant design looks like this:

In the bottom chamber can be anything that needs cooling, even an entire base.

P.S.: there still will be a possibility to cool filtered water because of different heat capacity of polluted and clean water, but without cooling plant side effects.

well.. did you consider that input water has got higher temp capacity - deleting heat again? did you calculate stuff?

anyway, its just another way to rid of heat/crank up hardness on early game. Other ways of deleting heat are AETN, whezewort, dumping material into space...

Tho its still an exploit - its not that disturbing to see.
Why no propositions of reducing micromanagement in game? Any other QOL stuff? what the heck? whats wrong with that sieve? isnt micromanagement disturbing you?

and yeah, output water at temp of pwater? do you expect steam?

Solving the heat death threat/fighting with the entropy - is one of the main challenges of the game. This building in current iteration just ruins it completely. AETN and WW have cooling power of around 150-200 kW and 12 kW correspondingly, that is enough for early game. Dumping overheated coolant into the void for late game has almost unlimited cooling power, that is enough too. But if you know about this exploit and use it, the heat is not a problem for you at all, because just one Water Sieve has roughly 2.4 MW of cooling power. You don't need anything else. This is what I call ruining the game.

Furthermore, buildings should serve their main purpose with lesser side effects, not vice versa.

If you think that you can't/too hard to survive early game without this exploit, you definitely do something completely wrong. But if you worry just about typical polluted water cleaning designs, there is nothing to worry about: both of them (filtration and distillation) still will need additional heat to work properly/consistently because of difference in heat capacity, therefore you can cool down cleaned water by using a heat pump.

I expect broken output pipes if the temperature exceeds clean water boiling point. It's regular mechanics for ONI.
