From what I've noticed, veggie, fish, and bread cravings tend to give less rewards than what the meal would normally offer (unless the only craving the meal is valid for is veggie or bread or fish). Developer error. The developers didn't give us 100% information on the recipe database. All the database shows us is the best reward the meal offers, but we don't know which cravings the meal will give those rewards to us for. Cheesecake is an example of this. Cheesecake can be given as dessert/cheese. If you give it as a dessert, it will give the rewards shown in the Klei database. If given as cheese, it will not give a favor even if it has a silver plate. There's a person working on figuring out what rewards every meal gives for each craving here that you can look at.
