Add an optional step-based designation system

Recommended Posts

Suppose that you're designating a large area to be excavated, with ladders every 4 blocks. The priority system allows some limited customization for the order that the dupes carry out the task, but I would like some finer control.

For example, I could tell them to First dig out the areas between the ladders, Then supply materials to the ladders, Then dig out those tiles and build the ladders. Or First dig out the top two tiles, Then the lower two tiles, Then supply, Then build.

Etc.

Where the large area with ladders looks something like this

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

OMG why?

If I had to guess, to avoid having to overly micromanage your duplicants who otherwise  tend todothings without any method tin ways that leave parts of the stuff the have to dig unaccescible and/or getting stuck ?

That said the suggeste solutin look even moe work than micromanaging.

XXXXXXXXXXXL - upper limit of ladders below
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL
LXLXLXLXLXLXL - "ladder row", ladders every other tile
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL - lower limit of ladders above
XXXXXXXXXXXL - upper limit of ladders below
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL
LXLXLXLXLXLXL - another ladder row
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL
XXXXXXXXXXXL - lower limit of ladders above

i've been doing something like this, basically one ladder column that can access all the rows, and then build ladders every other tile every 7th row. then the trick is that you set the ladders to build at priority 9, and everything else you dig at whatever priority you want (but less than 9) and then as they reveal those ladders in the dig, they'll also build them before digging the rest of it. unless you have diggers with dig priority set higher, then they might go too far.

you can make the rows pretty long, but i think i have 20-30 tiles wide before i make another ladder column

add sweepers at the bottom of where you plan to excavate, and everything will end up on the bottom where you can ship it away
