Caves-only survival tips?

This is true, though making treeguards aggro is still pretty easy (at least at the beginning of the fight) - just have have a regular tree in the area a walk toadstool over it. Come to think of it, with enough pinecones, the way to get treeguards in the area in the first place would be to plant a forest before engaging toadstool, then summoning toadstool once the trees are all tier 3.

I don't know how to spawn the big treeguards, so I tested the following:

  • 8 regular treeguards were able to get the toad down to 30k health before being killed
  • spawned 2x100 trees (100 in each of 2 distinct spots) spawned several treeguards of various sizes, with me chopping the sporecaps were able to bring it down to 22k

In either case, progress beyond that point seems impossible - even if the toad is focused on something else, like a rock lobster, there's no way to chop the sporecaps fast enough. At best, I can keep setting him on fire, but he spawn new sporecaps by the time one set burns down.

It does, did that a few months ago. Not a good way to farm wood, as many trees drop nothing. As a method of spawning leifs though... :)

Hm, I've probably destroyed too many clockworks to make it legitimately in my game, but how about bishops?

As I was sniping the toad with a fire staff, he would not go beyond a certain point (distance from hole?). Gonna test this now...

Edit: Nah, toad's maximum distance from hole increases with # of sporecaps, so placing a bishop pen at the right distance isn't really possible...
