Some ideas to improve Shinebugs and its Morphs

Recommended Posts

Now that Shinebugs got several variants with large amounts of decor, there's also more potential for balancing them around with what they eat because they do act as decorations. But at the moment, it is quite disappointing. Also the lack of reasons to have such high decor these bugs emit. Aaand the lack of the ability to wrangle them. I get why Pufts arent wrangleable but Shinebugs have such a simple function, why do they have such a clunky method of moving them around where they're needed. So let me formulate my reasons to why I want some changes:

Phosphorus is the material you get after heating up Phosphorite and then solidifying it again. Making it the 'refined' variant of Phosphorite with a simple logical puzzle of heating it up for usage. So wouldnt it be cool if rare-bred shinebugs ate that instead of raw phosphorite.

Secondly, being able to wrangle them and put them at their respective places. Shinebugs is this critter that needs its exact spot to be functional, maybe to light up some farms in the early game or what not. Right now you need plastics if they have run off somewhere where you can't normally enclose them in the places you want them to be. Remember that these critters still, only do two things, decor, and light. While costing food/phosphor to maintain. By the time you got plastics, those two would be sorted out.

And now, all its Morph-variants, they look like recolors and got different Decor levels, while its rarest one, the Nega-Shinebug eats Abyssilite. Pretty cool huh, but there's still the Sunny/Royal/Placid/Vital Shinebugs which will be mostly knocked out of meta when one outshines them all(Pun intended). Sure, you could argue that the diets are different, but there is so much room for potential. Such aaaas-

Vital Shinebugs regenerate HP or strenghten immune system when in the same room.

Royal Shinebugs should follow around whatever duplicant decides to pass it. Until it leaves the room. It could have that a Lure is its 'Starting point', and when a duplicant passes it, then it will start to follow. This way you could for instance have a long and dull hallway that most Duplicants doesn't like being in, then you give them a Royal Shinebug to accompany them so they won't feel lonely!

Sunny shinebugs used to be called Warm shinebug, which gave me the thought of 'Oh, this one must emit heat then', well it seemingly didnt. But because it has 'Sunny' in its name, wouldnt it make sense for it to emit a lot more light? Like, 8 tiles or so? Compared to 5. Making it handier for lighting up farms.

I think all the rest Morphs got their unique gimmick either through being 'an upgrade', sheer decor or diet. It was these Morphs that made me think they had unique applications. Which they didnt.
